The Department of Interdisciplinary and Inclusive Education operates within The College of Education, and offers undergraduate programs in early childhood education and in elementary education, a post-baccalaureate program (Teacher of Students with Disabilities), and Masters degree programs in Special Education, Learning Disabilities, Teacher Leadership, and a Master of Science in Teaching program in elementary education. The College of Education also houses and supports the Early Childhood Demonstration Center and the Special Education Assessment Center. A newly developed PhD in Education program with a specialization in Special Education was implemented in fall, 2016.

This Department of Interdisciplinary and Inclusive Education is seeking qualified and experienced special education specialists to supervise field experiences. The successful candidate will demonstrate familiarity with the accreditation standards of national associations in special education, such as the Council for Exceptional Children. This is a part-time, adjunct position with the possibility of renewal. The position requires availability during the regular school day.

Required:

  • M.A./M.Ed. or a terminal degree (Ed.D./Ph.D. ) in Special Education or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • Meet state licensure requirements for special education
  • A minimum of 3 years of public or private school successful teaching with students with exceptional learning needs
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching and service in education in the area of special education
  • Knowledge of inclusive practices for students with disabilities.
  • Experience in teaching students from multicultural backgrounds.
  • Experience teaching in face-to-face and online formats in higher education
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering academic achievement, social and personal responsibility, and social justice
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in an environment devoted to collaboration, collegiality, professional development, diversity, scholarly inquiry, student learning, civic responsibility, and respect for all people
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with P-12 schools and underrepresented groups
  • A teaching/learning philosophy consistent with the mission of the College of Education
  • Knowledge of assistive technologies and experience in using these technologies with students with exceptional learning needs
  • Knowledge of contemporary instructional practices in the education of students with exceptional learning needs and extensive experience teaching at the elementary and/or secondary education level
