Administrative Assistant

The Administrative Assistant provides critical support for the teaching, scholarly, and service mission for both the Department of Political Science (PS) and Center for Language Studies (CLS). The incumbent coordinates the administrative systems and functions that support faculty, students and staff to achieve and maintain a high level of excellence in all teaching, scholarly, professional, and public engagement endeavors. The incumbent proactively partners with the department chair/center director, department managers and faculty in the administration of the undergraduate concentration; serves as the department's outreach, communication, and events coordinator; supports classroom and course-related technology needs; maintains databases, and organizes and manages various administrative processes. The assistant works collaboratively, as well as independently and is a central point of contact between the department's faculty, students, administrative team, and other constituents with whom the department interacts.

Please Note: This position is divided on a 50% basis between both work locations, which are both on the Brown University College Hill Campus, and is scheduled to work ten months annually, during the academic year.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree and 1-2 years of related administrative experience, or high school degree and 2-3 years of related administrative experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient with standard office application software, word processing, spreadsheet, database.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think and act independently, and handle competing priorities
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group and in a changing environment.
