Admissions Counselor/ Recruiter

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTION SUMMARY:
The Admissions Counselor/Recruiter is responsible for recruiting and counseling prospective students and their families about the different programs of study available, admission policies and procedures at Northeastern Illinois University.

The admission counselor will conduct in-state and out-of-state high school visits and college fairs; provide outreach to students through the application process by communicating via e-mail, phone and in-person; assist with admissions event planning; and participate in on-campus and off-campus events related to recruitment. At the direction of the Director of Admissions, the Admissions Counselor/Recruiter plans, coordinates implements and manages short and long term strategies to identify and cultivate prospective students in order to generate quality applicants and achieve high yield enrollment rates in assigned territories. The Admissions Counselor/Recruiter represents Northeastern at on and off campus recruiting events.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Territory Management and Recruitment Activities

Recruitment of Prospective Students
1. Conduct in-state and out-of-state high school visits, college fairs, transfer fairs, and specific events related to student recruitment. Some events occur during the evenings and weekends.
2. Recruit and cultivate prospective students and provide essential information related to admissions requirements and academic programs.
3. Provide outreach to students through the application process by communicating via e-mail, phone, and in-person.
4. Utilize Banner, ACT data, Cognos reports and other student information systems to track and monitor prospect and applicant progress.
5. Evaluate freshmen and transfer applications.
6. Provides unofficial transcript evaluations to prospective students.
7. Collaborate with other admissions and university offices.
8. Meet weekly, monthly, and yearly recruitment and yield targets.
9. Host prospective students and families during campus visits and by providing individual admissions counseling, group presentations and campus tours.

Coordination of Recruitment-related Activities
1. Develop and execute high touch initiatives with partner high schools and community colleges.
2. Plan and implement on-site admission programs.
3. Complete weekly reports to assess contacts, applicants and admits.
4. Enter inquiry cards in the Banner Student system in a timely manner.
5. Participate in customer service training and professional development opportunities.
6. Develop and implement communication and conversion activities.
7. Participate as a member of the Admissions team in the development, implementation and evaluation of appropriate recruitment strategies and initiatives.

Maintain and Manage Tracking Systems
1. Utilize Banner, ACT data, Cognos and the new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to manage and communicate with prospects, applicants and admits.
2. Utilizes AIM to cultivate prospects, applicants & admits and identify new markets.
3. Complete Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Tasks in a timely manner.
4. Schedule and track results of recruitment activities, telecounseling and individual appointments.
5. Meet annually revised recruitment territory goals.
6. Complete other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (education, years of experience, training, license, programs or certifications)

The successful candidate for the position will have the following qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred or Bachelor's Degree with 2 years of admissions related experience.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Excellent communication skills, strong computer skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Knowledge of recruitment strategies.
  • Exhibit initiative and self-motivation.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and demonstrate a high level of customer service.
  • Evidence of public speaking experiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Detailed organizational and follow up skills.
