Duties & Responsibilities
Reporting to the Dean for Academic Programs and Diversity, the Assistant Dean of Academic Programs will work closely with her and the Dean of GSAS to help shape academic and professional development programming that will serve the 4000+ students and 57 PhD programs across the University. This may include assisting with special projects and strategic priorities of the Dean of GSAS, planning academic conferences for students, staff and faculty; convening and stewarding faculty committees; engaging with student groups; working with finance staff to budget for academic programs; partnering with Development colleagues to advance academic program fund-raising; and engaging with local departmental/program faculty and administrative staff in the 57 PhD programs.

More specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • Oversee reaccreditation reviews and conduct periodic degree program reviews
  • Collaborate on the development and shaping of new academic programs and shepherd new master and doctoral degree programs through a robust approval process
  • Manage GSAS funded research workshops; sit on the committee that reviews around 100 proposals received every year and oversee all aspects of the allocation of funds
  • Lead the Harvard Horizons annual program
  • Conduct learning and outcome assessments, using surveys and interviews, for GSAS' large and diverse student body (4,300+ students)
  • Collaborate on curricular and professional development initiatives across programs;
  • Partner with entities such as the Office of Career Services (OCS), the Bok Center for Teaching and Learning and the Harvard Initiative for Learning and Teaching (HILT) to develop programming that will enhance the academic and professional development of GSAS students
  • Write grants and proposals to help fund new initiatives
  • Manage print and web-based information for all of the GSAS academic programs

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of progressive academic affairs management experience.
Additional Qualifications
Ph.D. with at least two years related experience in an academic setting preferred. Strong analytical skills; superior organizational skills as well as interpersonal and written communication skills. Experience with curricular or program development. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, students and staff. Excellent judgement and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information. Experience at Harvard a plus.
