Reporting to the Dean of the Office of Global Services, the Assistant Dean assists the Dean in strategic planning and implementing university-wide programs and services that support the enrollment of international students and celebrate Northeastern's intercultural community. Important priorities of the Assistant Dean include: 1) Developing strategies and programs to support and enrich international student experiences and launching new university-wide initiatives that improve international retention and graduation; 2) working with the Dean and OGS managers in providing oversight and direction to the transition of new international students to support international students' success (undergraduate and graduate) in academic and experiential learning endeavors; 3) collaborating with the university and college co-op offices/advisors incorporating international students into the broad spectrum of University life; 4) managing projects with OGS Dean in programming initiatives that support cross-cultural educational opportunities for international and domestic students; and 5) helping strengthen international students' understanding of U.S. traditions and cultural expectations. The Assistant Dean is expected to help OGS build strong working partnerships and collaborations with University offices including admissions, orientation, advancement, career services, cooperative education, student activities, cultural centers, academic colleges and international study programs.


As a key member of the OGS management team, the Assistant Dean will also work on projects assigned by Dean and the Enrollment Management leadership, as well as leaders across the university to support institutional strategic goals related to student services, recruitment, enrollment, and retention growth.


The Assistant Dean's responsibilities and leadership roles include, but are not limited to, the following:


- Expand programing and services to ensure international students' initial success in acclimating to the Northeastern learning community.


- Assist the Dean in establishing a robust language and cultural center to support international students' need for academic success. This includes working with GSS to integrate such services into OGS operations.


- Work closely with the Dean in partnering with CATLR to provide programming for faculty and TAs to better address integrating international students into the American classroom.


- Design programs and workshops to acclimate international students into the American academic environment and familiarize them with Northeastern style of learning.


- Collaborate with CATLR in designing and executing programming for advisors that focuses on helping them understand the challenges international students face and enhancing their cultural awareness in interacting with international students.


- Collaborate with other OGS staff to provide overall international student services and perform duties assigned by the Dean to support the OGS' operations in compliance, programming, communication, and engagement in EMSA's strategic missions.




A master’s degree and demonstrated leadership establishing new programs and developing initiatives to support international student success. Knowledge and experience in higher education, especially as an international student. Experience supervising staff and student employees, especially for student-mentoring programs.


Work experience at university-level for 8-10 years. Demonstrated cross-cultural experience and facility to relate effectively to individuals of varied backgrounds; strong advocacy skills and student-centered focus; superior written and oral communication ability; managerial competence; commitment to collaboration, innovation, and ongoing professional development; and an appreciation for the dynamic nature of a growing national research institution will be important in the consideration of the Assistant Dean.
