Assistant Director, Counseling Services

The Assistant Director of Counseling Services supports the Director in providing administrative and clinical oversight for Counseling Services. The Assistant Director is specifically responsible for providing leadership for areas such as outreach, programming, and case management; as needed providing supervision for clinical staff and/or interns; consulting, as appropriate, with staff, faculty, families, professionals and students regarding a variety of mental health concerns; and providing risk assessments and crisis intervention as necessary. In addition to these responsibilities, the Assistant Director will provide individual personal counseling to Babson undergraduate and graduate students using a short term treatment model, as well as triaging new intakes, developing and leading groups, making appropriate referrals on and off-campus, and providing educational and outreach programming to the campus community. The Assistant Director may serve in a Clinician-on-call rotation for non-business hours.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist the Director in providing leadership, program development, and strategic planning for Counseling Services.
• Plan for and lead case consultation and clinical staff meetings.
• Provide administrative leadership for Counseling Services when the Director is unavailable.
• Consult with other members of the Babson College community, families and other professionals regarding student care, within the limits of confidentiality.
• Provide training on mental health issues and suicide prevention to the campus community, including, but not limited to, staff and student leaders.
• Participate in a weekly staff meeting, and other departmental and division meetings and events.
• Provide crisis intervention and risk assessment as needed.
• Partner with Health & Wellness Department colleagues (Health Services, Alcohol & Other Drug Services, Health Promotion, and Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Services) in the development of a holistic approach to health and wellness at Babson College.
• Provide intake assessments with triage-based disposition and referral.
• Provide individual counseling for students within a brief and focused counseling model.
• Facilitate/co-facilitate groups, workshops and psycho-educational outreach.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all clinical interactions and consultation.
• Perform case management and administrative responsibilities in support of clinical work.
• Assumes additional responsibilities as required.
Supervises: N/A Education Requirements:
Minimum Level of Education Required Ph.D./PsyD in clinical or counseling psychology, MSW, or equivalent; licensed by the State of Massachusetts
Position Knowledge/Skills & Abilities Requirements:
• 4-6 years of experience in a college counseling center strongly preferred
• Must have knowledge of the challenges experienced by college students.
• Must have demonstrated strong diagnostic and therapeutic skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice, as well as personal and professional integrity
• Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and to build relationships with other departments and college administrators
• Must have experience providing brief counseling, providing risk assessment and crisis response.
• Must have strong verbal, writing, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment and interact with culturally diverse individuals at all levels of the organization
• Demonstrated technological competence with an appreciation and skill to apply technology in departmental operations and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) as well as any Counseling Services specific software.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, and must be able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times
• Ability to envision and propose new methods to perform tasks that support ET&A; take thoughtful risks; and accept new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.
• Ability to anticipate and embrace change; demonstrate willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.
• Experience working as a part of a collaborative, team-based approach to clinical services in a fast-paced work setting.
