Assistant or Associate Professor (HS Clinical, Clinical X) - Proton Physicists

The Division of Medical Physics and Technology in the Department of Radiation Medicine and Applied Sciences (RMAS) at UC San Diego (http://radonc.ucsd.edu) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and is seeking an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level proton physicist to join a growing team of faculty proton physicists

The CPCTC features the Varian ProBeam proton system with three gantry rooms and two fixed beam rooms. In addition to the CPCTC, UC San Diego's Radiation Medicine and Applied Sciences (RMAS) Department serves five clinical institutions in the greater San Diego area and is an integral part of Rebecca and John Moore's Cancer Center, an NCI Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The successful candidate will join a growing team of physicists and technical staff at the California Protons Cancer Therapy Center (CPCTC). The successful candidate(s) may serve as the Chief of Physics at CPCTC with the formal UC San Diego title: Deputy Director, Proton Therapy Physics.

The Deputy Director of Proton Therapy Physics is an excellent opportunity for an strong, leadership focused faculty who is interested in developing their management skills.

The Deputy Director of Proton Therapy Physics will report to the Director of the Division of Medical Physics and Technology at the UC San Diego Department of Radiation Medicine and Applied Sciences and will take the lead on the following job functions at the CPCTC: direct and provide oversight, evaluate, and set standards for the physicists and dosimetrists; provide consultative services to the radiation oncologists, assist in the identification, review, evaluation and implementation of new technology; assist in recruiting and retaining high quality physicists and dosimetrists as the treatment volume grows; assist efforts to prioritize clinical research and facilitate the development of clinical trials in partnership with other centers; arrange for adequate physics and dosimetry coverage; maintain accurate and complete QA records; assist in the development and review of policies and procedures; assist in obtaining and maintaining relevant licenses, permits, and accreditation; actively participate in the publication of peer-reviewed research and presentations; provide education and training for both staff and medical and physics residents; participate in hosting visitors to the center.

Candidates must have a PhD and be board certified or board eligible by the American Board of Radiology in Medical Physics or equivalent. Candidate must have skills for day-to-day clinical support and must also have a demonstrated publication and teaching record.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's qualifications, experience academic track-record and career trajectory.. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.
