Assistant Professor Education


The Education Department of Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon is a dynamic, collaborative team dedicated to the preparation of the next generation of educators and the production of scholarly knowledge and service. The Department is seeking an enthusiastic and engaged colleague for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor of Education to begin Fall semester 2018.  Responsibilities include teaching courses in the English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) endorsement program as well as a variety of other teacher education courses, based on the candidate’s experience and expertise. In addition to scholarly credentials, the ideal candidate must have enthusiasm for teaching, advising, supervising, and mentoring undergraduate preservice teachers.  The posting closes on January 22, 2017 and screenings begin on January 30, 2018.




  • Teach courses in the English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) endorsement program as well as a variety of teacher education courses including supervision of student teachers.
  • Assist and mentor students as faculty advisor in academic and career planning.
  • Perform the responsibilities of a faculty member at a liberal arts college, including helping with student recruitment.




  • Ph. D. or Ed.D. in Education or related field by July 1, 2018.
  • Background and experience in teacher education.
  • ESOL, TESOL, or related certification.
  • Scholarship in teacher education or related field.
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience in grades preK-12.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching that values the undergraduate liberal arts experience emphasizing critical thinking, community engagement, and faculty-student collaboration.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student-centered teaching and mentoring diverse students (e.g. new majority students, first generation students, students of color, transfer students, Pell-eligible students).
  • Teaching and/or research and/or service that demonstrates a commitment to diversity as defined by the Linfield College diversity statement: Linfield College honors human rights and academic freedom, celebrates diverse cultures, fosters a climate of mutual respect, and promotes an inclusive environment that affirms the value of all persons.




  • Evidence of teaching in teacher education.
  • Expertise in Linguistics for ESOL educators.
  • Expertise in teaching linguistics for ESOL educators.


  • Teaching experience with preK-12 English Language Learners.
  • Teaching experience in a preK-12 public-school setting.
  • Evidence of student-centered teaching and mentoring diverse students (e.g. new majority students, first generation students, students of color, transfer students, Pell-eligible students).


  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty and colleagues and capacity to serve the department and larger college community.
