Digital Media and Journalism

Posting Date

September 21, 2018

Duties

The Department of Digital Media and Journalism at the State University of New York at New Paltz invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the level of Assistant Professor, beginning in Fall 2019.

We seek a person who can teach and do quality research in the Department of Digital Media and Journalism. Desired areas of specialization include television/film studies, critical/cultural studies, media rhetoric and/or media studies, with a qualitative or mixed methods research approach. As SUNY New Paltz is primarily a teaching institution, the candidate should be able to teach effectively in introductory and advanced undergraduate courses. The successful applicant will be expected to teach 18 credit hours of coursework, or the equivalent, during the academic year, along with advising majors and minors in the department. The successful candidate should be prepared to teach courses, some writing intensive, in media studies, along with film, television and video theory and aesthetics. The hire is expected to complement the department faculty's strengths as a blend of active media practitioners-filmmakers, journalists and producers-and media scholars. Along with teaching and scholarly research, duties include advising and collegial participation in the life of the Department and University.

We value the diversity of our students, faculty, and staff and are especially interested in considering applicants with a strong commitment to fostering a culturally diverse atmosphere.

Qualifications

A Ph.D. in Mass Media, Media Studies, Communication or related field is preferred. Exceptional ABD candidates with a firm completion date will be considered. Candidates should have teaching experience at the undergraduate level and a demonstrated program of research.
