General Summary

Reporting to the director of alumni relations, the associate director of alumni relations will manage the development, implementation and assessment of student programs and services which align with the goals of the university and advancement. As a member of the alumni relations team, this person will be aware of new and on-going university programming and seek additional opportunities and appropriate partnerships when applicable.

Responsibilities & Duties

Relationship Management:
  • Initiate and develop relationships needed to effectively coordinate and implement student programs.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with students and key university personnel to enhance current programs and eliminate duplication of efforts.
  • Manage 2-3 student groups and other critical relationships as they relate to our student engagement initiatives.
  • Serve as the liaison between alumni relations and student affairs and serve as the alumni relations representative on university-wide committees as needed.
  • Identify and manage alumni volunteers for student programs.
  • Foster relationships with graduating students to identify potential alumni leaders and prospects.

  • Work with director of alumni relations to establish goals and strategic plans for all student engagement outreach efforts.
  • Build upon the success of current programs and initiate new opportunities to engage students while identifying opportunities to strengthen those connections.
  • Develop assessment techniques to measure program success and determine program goals.
  • Create year plans to enhance student related social media presence.
  • Determine best practices for the tracking and engagement of alumni volunteers that are utilized for student programs.

Communications and Marketing:
  • Represent alumni relations and the university to numerous constituencies in a variety of settings.
  • Prepare written and oral presentations and reports on student engagement efforts as needed.
  • Work in conjunction with advancement communications team on all student communications needs including event promotions, social media efforts, event and program collateral, student email outreach and other projects as needed.
  • Manage student related email list-servs and prepare email updates for student groups.
  • Provide student-related content for alumni social media pages as needed.

Event & Program Management:
  • Manage ongoing student programs and conceptualize and execute new programs.
  • Assess program success and opportunities for growth.
  • Collaborate with external departments on events and programs that are aligned with the goals of alumni relations including Orientation and Countdown to Graduation activities.
  • Manage pre-event coordination, onsite staffing and appropriate communication and marketing as well as post-event follow-up and data collection for all meetings, activities and programs that maximize alumni and student affinity and participation.

  • Manage all aspects of the Class Legacy Gift program.
  • Collaborate with annual and special giving to determine strategies for long-term plan for engaging Legacy Gift donors.
  • Identify additional fundraising opportunities and philanthropy education efforts for students.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required with emphasis in liberal arts, communication, marketing or related field.

Financial Responsibilities

  • Manage annual budget for all student engagement programs and efforts.

  • Ability to initiate and develop new programs.
  • Self-motivated and adaptable to a variety tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including public speaking and writing capabilities.
  • Able to manage several projects simultaneously and work effectively under time constraints.
  • Build effective, open and communicative relationships with internal and external constituents.
  • Computer literacy, database management skills.
  • Broad understanding of higher-education issues and knowledge of volunteer-focused environment.
  • Experience managing volunteers.Knowledge of social media.
