Associate Dean for Student Affairs

The Associate Dean for Student Affairs is a major leadership position at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. The Associate Dean, working with the Senior Associate Dean for Medical Education, will lead and manage all activities of the Office of Student Affairs, including but not limited to student services, student advising, the learning environment, career development and wellness initiatives. The Associate Dean will be responsible for the development and design of student support programming and preparation and management of all student related budgets. The Associate Dean will be actively engaged with students in all phases of the process that leads to completion of the medical degree, including oversight and support for student research and other scholarly activities; academic accommodations and licensing exam preparation activities; and career advising and mentoring as they progress through the residency application and selection process. The Associate Dean will also work closely with the Associate Dean for Medical Education who oversees the medical school curriculum. The Associate Dean is a collaborative senior leadership partner in the Warren Alpert Medical School (AMS), interacting with all AMS departments, colleagues and staff, both internal and external to Brown.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MD or MD/PhD plus a minimum of 5 years' experience in medical school academic administration either in a Dean's office position or as a course director, clerkship director, or residency training director or equivalent combination of education/experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Ability to design and manage innovative student support programming and systems
  • Excellent financial and budgetary management skills
  • Detail oriented and with excellent time management skills
