Associate Professor- Chair of Photography

Columbus College of Art & Design is seeking a Chair of photography. The Photography program's primary mission is to produce visual artists who are innovative and well versed in the exchange of ideas and aesthetics across multiple photographic formats, and are proficient using the tools of existing and emerging technologies. The curriculum focuses on creative problem solving through still and time-based media, stressing the interrelationship between photography, video, film, animation, and digital multimedia contextualized within the constantly evolving environment of contemporary and future imaging fields.

With over 50 students, this program also works with other areas of the college such as Film & Video, Advertising & Graphic Design, and CORE studies to provide a robust education that prepares students technically, conceptually and professionally for meaningful pursuits as commercial or fine art photographers. Our goal is to educate artists who are imaginative and critical, capable of entrepreneurial initiative and collaborative engagement, and who are ultimately thoughtfully and critically involved in the discourse of society.

CCAD is looking for a dynamic and engaged chair for this program with significant professional photography experience and networks, who is energized by the promise of this opportunity. The successful candidate will work closely with other program chairs and upper administration to guide this program by further strengthening its vision and personality, engage with faculty, and mentor students. The college is looking for a candidate with experience in developing curriculum with demonstrated departmental leadership. The successful candidate will be expected to teach a broad range of courses at all levels and coordinate with internal and external partners. The college is looking for an individual who understands the importance of creativity for commerce as well as culture.

In Practice: We seek a colleague who is actively engaged in the contemporary practice of photography though proven track record of professional engagement and leadership. Recognizing the rich experience that active scholars and practitioners bring to our community we are interested in and supportive of the promise of ongoing and future work. A knowledge base including current photography practices and methodologies, business understanding, and a fluency in cultural trends and educational practices is essential.

In Teaching: We value teachers who are excited about assisting creative students of diverse skills and backgrounds develop their professional practice, and energized by working with them within a project-based real-world environment. Empathy, curiosity and rigor are qualities that we value in colleagues who strive to support, challenge and bring out the best in their students.

In Service: We expect leadership in undergraduate and graduate programs, curriculum development, advising, and governance within the departments, college and field at large. We welcome candidates who will diversify our curriculum and our faculty in regards to race, gender and ethnicity.

Position: Associate Professor, Chair of Photography, full-time

Qualifications: Terminal degree in Photography or related field with active professional practice, and a minimum of five years of full-time college level teaching experience required. Demonstrated administrative and academic leadership experience and possession of managerial acumen to effectively and collaboratively work with colleagues to influence growth.
