Broadcast Communications Specialist

Position Information

The Broadcast Communications Specialist is an experienced professional who is capable of storytelling visually, orally and in writing. The incumbent knows how to use a video camera and other visual equipment as well as the latest editing and audio software. The Broadcast Communications Specialist has knowledge of writing for social media, broadcasting and print media as well and knows how to tell a story for each platform. The incumbent researches, writes, and edits materials from other UC ANR departments, programs, and experts. The incumbent must be bicultural and bilingual in English and Spanish. The incumbent is a problem solver and self-motivated and is willing to travel at short notice.

Minimum Requirements

Thorough organizational skills.
Thorough creative skills.
Thorough knowledge of the campus including its mission, vision, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure, including strong knowledge of principles, policies and procedures, including risk assessment and evaluation of risk likelihood and consequences.
Thorough knowledge/understanding of relevant technology, including methods of broadcast operations.
Thorough knowledge of various types of programming.
Thorough written, research, editing, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
Must be bilingual in English and Spanish with the ability to communicate effectively in both languages. Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, using tact and diplomacy both in English and Spanish. Must be able to do voice over in English and Spanish.
Ability to work as a team player and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Ability to work with diverse multicultural community groups.
Ability to function independently and take responsibility for results; organize workload with close attention to detail; manage multiple tasks and timelines, and last-minute projects.
Excellent written communications skills, including the ability to write a newspaper article, press release, TV news script; edit, and use correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar in both English and Spanish.
Able to shoot video and interviews for video stories, as well as record audio interviews and write radio news stories, 30, and 60 seconds. Knowledge of audio editing software. Ability to edit video stories using Premier, After Effects and Photoshop.
Ability to produce a TV and / or radio show. Skills to do a podcast from beginning to end.
Ability to write for several platforms, such as Facebook, Tweeter, Instagram and website.
Fast learner and good attitude towards learning new skills, approaches and able to receive feedback and coaching. Open to new ideas and approaches, innovator.
Knowledge of graphic design. Assist with the design, layout, formatting, graphics of communication and educational video and print materials.
Able to lead workshops and public presentations about NOS.
Able to conduct in a professional manner while contacting UC ANR experts of UCCE advisors for on radio or on camera interviews.
Able to assist creating a media / marketing campaign.
Possess journalism skills to determine when a story is news worthy, and creative enough to make an engaging story to any audience
