Synopsis of Role:


American Public University System (APUS) is seeking a Business Analyst Team Lead with strong analytical and product management skills to proactively communicate and collaborate with external and internal customers to analyze information needs, functional requirements and deliver the appropriate artifacts. The business analyst team lead will evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, drive and challenge assumptions and distinguish business requests from the underlying true needs. In addition the business analyst team lead will need to have a strong understanding of the APUS business strategy and operational processes in order to align with the tactical and strategic vision.


Essential Functions:


• Analyzes business practices throughout APUS departments and utilize this information to influence system enhancements and maintenance requests.


• Analyzes business processes to define the functional and detailed requirements and works with the technology development team to design specifications and approach.


• Meets with the department contacts and reporting team to create functional design documents for new reports providing data mapping and report layout specifications.


• Leads discovery sessions, publishes meeting minutes, and assures all action items are completed in the timeframe set.


• Consults with business process owners to obtain additional information during system development in order to evaluate an alternative approach.


• Conducts system demonstrations.


• Collaborates with the user experience team to obtain optimal student/user experience for new and existing system functions.


• Assists the project team and key stakeholders in the review of test cases.


• Prepares user acceptance testing (UAT) documentation and lead the user acceptance testing effort with the responsible business process owner.


• Prepares and executes quality assurance test plans and cases.


• Monitors and documents post-implementation problems and revision requests.


• Provides direction, support and feedback within the business analysis team.


• Performs team lead duties including supervising analysts, delegating and prioritizing workloads, reporting project and analyst status to management.


• Resolves issues within and across teams.


• Measures team performance, status, and productivity.


• Supports project objectives.


• Identifies new features/ technologies that will improve the way that the University meets the needs of the students.


• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.


• 7 to 10 years’ experience in the information technology or education disciplines required.


• 5 years’ experience in a business analyst position required.


• Exposure to two plus years of IT development methodologies such as agile or rational unified process (RUP) required.


• Experience with design/development of web applications required.


• CBAP, PMP, or other IT certifications preferred.
