Chairperson - Division of Applied Technology, Business, Community Education & Workforce Development

The University of New Mexico Gallup (UNM-Gallup) Branch invites applicants for the position of Chairperson within the Division of Business & Applied Technology, Workforce Development, Community Education, Adult Education and Center for Career and Technical Education. As the lead administrator of this division, the Chairperson manages, creates and inspires learning in all career and technical education programs of study which serves a richly diverse population ranging in age from dually enrolled high school students to non-traditional students returning to upgrade or learn new career skills. The chairperson will work closely with the local community to determine areas of need and design ways for UNM-Gallup to meet those needs.

UNM-Gallup is the largest of four branch community colleges of the University and serves approximately 2,200 students. Gallup is located 138 miles west of Albuquerque, and UNM Albuquerque. Gallup has a population of approximately 22,000 and the area provides an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities within some of the most beautiful red rock country in the Southwest. Located near the Navajo and Zuni Reservations, UNM-Gallup has the largest Native American student body and is
designated as a Department of Education Minority-Serving Institution. UNM-Gallup is fully accredited by the North Central Association.

This is a full-time, 12 month position with administrative duties. The Chairperson has many roles within the division as well as the institution, which include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Develop, implement and monitor Faculty Chair Evaluation Agreements
  • Initiate and monitor annual staff evaluations
  • Develop course schedules and facility usage schedules for academic year
  • Oversight of tenure and promotion considerations for Division
  • Plan and facilitate faculty development
  • Participate and collaborate on institution effectiveness initiatives including assessment and program reviews
  • Plan and facilitate grant funded initiatives
  • Provide leadership for development of action plans and objectives that support the mission of the University
  • Participate and guide curriculum development and reform initiatives, evaluating department programs
  • Actively engage in ensuring all requirements are met for faculty licensure, and for accreditation programs
  • Collaborate and implement Division effective and efficiency strategies
  • Develop and manage Division budget by allocating, monitory, and monitoring Division resources
  • Follow institutional policies and procedures
  • Promote and implement a strategic learning environment for students
  • Advocate on behalf of Division concerns
  • May have a teaching assignment
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in field or equivalent experience and certifications.
  • At least 2 years of related experience in one or more of the following areas: Adult Education, Automotive Technology, Business Administration, Center for Career and Technical Education, Community Education, Construction Technology, Cosmetology/Barbering, Criminal Justice/law Enforcement, Design & Digital Media, Drafting, Fire Science Technology, Organization Management & Public Administration, Welding Technology, and Workforce Development.
  • One year of relevant teaching experience, preferably in post-secondary education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD or Doctoral degree or All But Dissertation (ABD) in closely related discipline.
  • Experience in academic administration at Chair level or higher.
  • Experience in academic administration of leadership, interpreting and implementing policies, managing budgets.
  • Experience in faculty hiring and evaluation.
  • Experience in diverse programs, implementing education programs, and academic standards.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
