Student Support provides programs and services to support student retention and success, with a focus on the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and attitudes to support lifelong health, wellness, and thriving. We assist students in responding immediately to their needs with care, compassion, and cultural appropriateness; develop strategies to overcome and address barriers that prevent them from achieving their educational goals; and increase students' awareness of and satisfaction with the availability and accessibility of resources and supports.

The Dean will be responsible for the daily management of Counseling, Conduct, Student Life, Student Diversity & Inclusion, Residential Life and the Benefits HUB. They will provide leadership for the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation for a multifaceted campus-wide mental health and wellness education program and key performance measures for students' physical, emotional, psychological, and overall well-being. The Dean will also provide leadership and direction for the implementation of a new residential life program with a 200 bed facility slated to open in Fall 2019. This position reports to the Vice President for Students, Equity, & Success.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Address barriers to college completion, student support, leadership development, wellness, and employing an equity frame dedicated to inclusive excellence and closing the opportunity gap.
  • Develop and serving in an on-call duty rotation for the Residential Life program.
  • Ensure College programs and services are accessible to specific populations, complying with College policies, relevant regulations and State and Federal legislation.
  • Investigate and adjudicate minor level student conduct reports including completion of required documentation in compliance with College policy and process.
  • Serve as a deputy investigator for purposes of Title IX college compliance under guidance of the Vice President for Students, Equity & Success and the Title IX Coordinator.
  • Educate the student population regarding appropriate behavioral expectations in compliance with the student conduct code and College policy through quarterly training opportunities.
  • Support faculty and staff in mediating student conduct issues.
  • Lead the Counseling area to provide intervention and response to students of concern; provide administrative oversight for the Care Team.
  • Develop, direct the implementation of and monitor goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards assuring legal requirements are met.
  • Maintain institutional regulatory compliance with federal and state laws.
  • Prepare or direct the preparation of a variety of written correspondence, reports, procedures, ordinances and other materials; direct the maintenance of departmental files.
  • Work closely with academic deans, department heads, and faculty to ensure that students are receiving support and referrals to offices providing wrap around support and care.
  • Implement ongoing evaluation of all programs and services to ensure quality and connection to the College's strategic plan.
  • Prioritize and allocate resources; review and evaluate programs ensuring maximum service delivery; prepare and administer budget, including determination of staffing and operational requirements; approve and monitor expenditures.
  • Serve on the management team for the Vice President for Students, Equity & Success; attend meetings and conferences ensuring departmental needs and concerns are represented.
  • Employ research methods to assess efficacy of interventions designed to improve student equity outcomes.
  • Work closely with Dean for Access & Advising to ensure the success of Residential Life, including the support of programmatic and leadership efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned (of a similar nature or level).

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, Education, Student Affairs or related field.
  • Experience working with students with disabilities and student veterans.
  • Experience with testing and assessment in a higher education setting.
  • Experience in student affairs with an emphasis on student conduct, counseling and leadership development, student activities and programming, or experiential learning.
  • Experience in student crisis management and emergency response.

LICENSES:

  • Licensed mental health professional or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Washington State Core Services Bill, Federal/State Veteran's educational benefits, Title IX, and FERPA.
  • MS Office applications including Access, Excel, Outlook, and Word programs or similar, as well as other electronic record keeping systems such as HP3000 or similar.
  • Management best practices, student development theory and psycho-social dynamics of disabilities theory.
  • Learning outcomes assessment, staff training/development, and student advisement.
