Under the supervision of the Director of Dental Hygiene, the successful candidate will be responsible for teaching dental hygiene theory, laboratory, and clinic. As the First Year Lead Instructor, responsibilities will be assigned in the following subject areas: first-year and second-year restorative theory, labs, and clinics.

In addition to teaching, this position will require assisting with the advising and selection of applications; participation in department, division, and campus meetings/committees, development of curriculum that is responsive to changes in the field; and participation in other related professional activities. Some portion of the teaching assignment may be in the evening, weekend, and/or at off-campus locations.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree in Dental Hygiene or related discipline from an accredited institution with coursework in dentistry or dental hygiene
  • Three (3) years of recent dental hygiene clinical experience
  • Experience teaching in higher education, especially teaching and learning in an online environment
  • Microsoft Office or similar programs, learning management systems, and other appropriate instructional technologies

LICENSES/CERTIFICATION:

  • Current Washington State License to practice Dental Hygiene OR Dentistry OR ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Postsecondary vocational certificate OR experience and training to qualify for vocational certificate

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Educational methods and instruction to adults at an institution of higher learning
  • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and quality assurance and the Dental Hygiene scope of practice
  • Professional organizations related to the field of Dental Hygiene

SKILL IN:

  • Contribution to equity & belonging through multicultural awareness and competence
  • Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into the instruction of Dental Hygiene
  • Curriculum development/design and use of academic technology in Dental Hygiene with reflection of current industry standards
  • Instructional methods which engage and create a cooperative, studentcentered learning environment
  • Effective oral/written communication with individuals at all levels inside and outside the College
  • Experience with and or willingness to gain experience with teaching and developing coursework online
  • Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds/abilities
  • Developing and modifying curriculum both collaboratively and independently
  • Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
