Position Information
Hiring Department: Advising and Student Services
Posting End Date: Open until filled.
Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends
FLSA status: Exempt
Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.
Starting Salary: Commensurate with experience.

Purpose of Position
Summary:The Director of Financial Literacy and Wellness is responsible for leading a team of staff members dedicated to providing financial literacy and wellness services to all students and serves as a collaborative partner with the Office of Student Financial aid to execute the university's financial literacy and wellness programs. The Financial Literacy and Wellness Program will educate and empower students to make good financial decisions while in college and beyond. The program will focus not only on smart borrowing while paying for college, but budgeting well and making sound financial decisions throughout one's life.
Essential Functions
Leads the development and implementation of a comprehensive campus-wide financial literacy and wellness program to support students, nearly half of whom are first generation, to navigate the college financing experience as well as establish lifelong financial planning habits in areas such as budgeting, savings, and debt.
Supports and advocates for the academic goals of UTEP students by assisting with innovative student-centered approaches to financial literacy and wellness.
Partners with Enrollment Management and collaborates with campus partners, , EPCC advisors and counselors, and the local community to create, develop, promote, publicize and deliver presentations, webinars and workshops both on and off campus that expands the understanding of money and credit management, responsible borrowing, loan default prevention, budgeting for college and beyond, savings, investments, and financial goal setting.
Analyze and monitor trends and developments in financial literacy to identify best practices that will enhance the university's program and develop and incorporate changes as they are identified.
Coordinates, implements, supervises, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, integration, and completion of projects related to financial literacy and wellness.
Hiring and training staff and students to provide money management consultation and support to students as requested and to assist with planning and coordinating financial literacy events on campus.
Addresses issues and concerns, coordinates events, distributes informational materials, and advertise services and online tools available to students seeking assistance with financial planning and management.
Collaborate with the Office of Student Financial Aid and Marketing and Communication to develop and integrate a financial literacy and wellness component into websites and other communication outlets to provide sources of comprehensive financial literacy and consumer information in compliance with the federal and university regulations.
Participates in committees, professional training, conferences, conventions, and community events that are affiliated with the goals and objectives of the financial literacy and wellness program.
Understands and supports the department's role in accomplishing the University's mission.
Successfully utilizes all Microsoft Office software and institutional software systems including the student information system, service desk, and online scheduling platform.

Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's Degree.
and
Experience: Five years of related experience and/or training in the essential duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree
Applicants Should Demonstrate:
Well-developed working knowledge related to financial literacy topics and personal money management.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations; gather and analyze data; draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
Comfortability with public speaking.
