Director of Health Services

The Director of Health Services provides leadership in the delivery of comprehensive, culturally-sensitive health and wellness services for the Edgewood College community, including supporting the medical providers in diagnosis and treatment of acute minor illness and stable chronic illness. Provide consultation, collaboration and referral for health-related illness and offer education, programs, and outreach for the college community which promote wellness. As a member of the Student Development Staff, assists in engaging all students in meaningful educational experiences, in and out of the classroom. Serves on several institutional and division-wide committees.


Responsibilities:

Clinic Leadership and Supervision

  • Maintain and operate the health services clinic on a regular schedule
  • Coordinate all medical services provided by clinic health care providers
  • Establish relationship and maintain strong communication with a medical director as appropriate
  • Supervise health services staff including part-time medical assistant(s) and nurse practitioner(s)
  • Provide support for the College's pandemic response efforts to ensure coordination of the pandemic response plan revisions in conjunction with current best practices
  • Develop and monitor budget for Health Services and office operations
  • Arrange for the purchase of clinical equipment, medical supplies, and other supplies
  • Maintain confidential records and manage all processes related to electronic health records, including billing and insurance processes, in compliance with FERPA and HIPAA
  • Update policy and procedure documents as appropriate
  • Conduct regular assessments and evaluation on student learning, programs and services
  • Initiate and maintain contacts with health professionals in the Madison community
  • Ensure cultural competence for all Health Services staff and foster an environment of inclusivity and respect to race/ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability, religion and other identities
  • Maintain a channel of open communication with other campus health care providers regarding both individual and campus wide health issues and concerns (e.g. Personal Counseling Services, Sports Medicine- Athletics, and Dietitian).

Health and Wellness Programming

  • Provide leadership for and work collaboratively with Student Development Staff to provide programming and support services that help to educate, aid in prevention, and create awareness on health topics relevant to diverse student populations
  • Collaborate with Residence Life, Personal Counseling Services and the Violence Prevention Team to offer programs for the prevention of sexual violence and promotion of healthy relationships
  • Serve as member of the Wellness Center to work in collaboration with Personal Counseling to provide outreach education and opportunities that promote wellness through inclusive programs
  • Provide education and training to Resident Assistants and other student groups on health-related issues
  • Assist those interested in smoking cessation and, as time permits, oversee educational programs on hazards of smoking and secondhand smoke
  • Disseminate inclusive health information to college community
  • Coordinate wellness programming and flu clinics with nursing faculty and students
  • Collaborate/consult with Human Resources and Environmental Health Safety & Risk Management on wellness and safety programming campus-wide, and/or for faculty and staff matters as appropriate

Direct Patient Care Service

  • Render emergency treatment and advice to those who are seriously injured or ill at the clinic under the direction of clinic health care providers
  • Evaluate minor ailments and injuries and offer medication and treatment under the direction of clinic health care providers
  • Manage health history forms for all students
  • Counsel in such areas as nutrition, mental health, weight control, eating disorders
  • Perform travel health physicals and provide the appropriate education, vaccination and recommendations under the direction of clinic health care providers

College Service

  • Serve as member of "Edgewood College Cares Team" (behavioral intervention team)
    • Represent the Division of Student Development on institutional committees, task forces, and groups. Also serves on Student Development division-wide committees
    • Serve as a Student Development Staff member, e.g. attend Student Development Staff meetings, retreats, Orientations, Commencements and other staff and college functions as appropriate
    • Support the Mission of the College by working with faculty, staff and students to share in our core values - truth, compassion, justice, partnership, and community.
    • Serve as member of the Academic Appeals Committee

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Education or Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited program
  • Wisconsin Nursing License
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate clinical work
  • Knowledge of the health needs of the college student population

Preferred Education or Work Experience:

  • 4 years or greater post-graduate clinical work
  • Health Clinic management or director-level experience
  • Work in campus health in a college or university setting

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Skill in general nursing practice
  • Evidence of strong communication skills-written and oral
  • Demonstrated ability to create a trusting, supportive rapport with students
  • Knowledge of current health issues, protocols and best practices
  • Demonstrated record of ethical practice
  • Strong organizational skills
