SUMMARY: The Director of Institutional Research & Assessment supports the college by collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting information essential for evaluating institutional effectiveness with an emphasis on student learning, satisfaction, and success. The Director is responsible for integrated planning, organizing, and coordinating of activities required for campus-wide assessment, institutional research, and institutional effectiveness for continuous improvement. The Director serves as the liaison between the College and the Higher Learning Commission(HLC), manages reaffirmation activities, and has primary responsibility for all HLC issues, regulations, and initiatives. The successful candidate will be a focused, energetic worker who is well organized, attentive to detail, able to multi-task, able to work independently, and effectively work in teams. The Director must demonstrate strong verbal and written skills, should be a strategic thinker, and should be capable of managing complex projects with multiple stakesholders effectively in a higher education setting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES

 

  • Lead in the research and preparation of reports to regulatory agencies, staff and faculty.
    • Work with Information Technology and other data sources to write clear and concise reports readable by a wide variety of audiences (examples include: annual fact books, retention reports, faculty factsheets and salary reports, enrollment management projections, data to support grant proposals, room usage analysis, integrated planning updates, etc.). 
    • Work with registrar, chief financial officer, and other appropriate staff in writing reports that respond to federally-mandated, consortia, marketing, and requests for institutional data from external agencies, educational institutions and associations and societies (examples include: IPEDS, AICAD, HLC, NASAD and ODE).
    • Develop peer-comparison reports based on external data using IPEDS, AICAD, HEADS, NASAD, salary sources, surveys, etc... as requested and provide anticipatory questions to assist relevant stakeholders in developing and refining research questions.

 

  • Maintain and continually improve data collection and documentation procedures.
  • Respond to regular and ad hoc requests for institutional data from the provost, registrar, and dean of students, and in collating reports for the purposes of promotiong and evidence-based decision-making environment for planning, policy development, strategic decision making and assessment.

 

  • Oversee the development of appropriate assessment surveys and the administration of these tests and results, including supporting chairs and deans in direct learning assessment by designing research protocols and analyzing results for the academic programs. 
  • Serve as a resource for the development of course and program student achievement assessment plans.
  • Educate others on how to collect and analyze data for goal oriented decision making

 

  • Oversee/monitor direct and indirect assessment of non-academic effectiveness.
  • Provide training on data collection and management, and policies and procedures to meet accreditation requirements.
  • Support the Student Affairs Division and other areas of the college in direct and indirect assessment by designing assessment  protocols, providing training to staff members on effective assessment practices, and assisting with analysis of  

 

  • Serve as the ALO to HLC. Assist in preparing accreditation annual reports and reviews to HLC, NASAD, and ODE or other accrediting bodies as needed.

 

  • Oversee the Continuous Improvement and Data Collection Committees and serve as a member of appropriate committees as requested.

 

  • Stay abreast of changes in policies and procedures; maintains knowledge of current trends, events, and emerging issues, and perform miscellaneous duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Proficient in the use of computer software important to institutional reseach for data extraction, verification, analysis, and presentation software as well working with a relational databases. Experience with PowerCampus preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of qualitative and quantitative measurement techniques with demonstrated command of statistics and advanced skills in using statistical and spreadsheet and data modeling software.
  • Extensive knowledge of institutional research, and sound understanding of assessment and planning functions within postsecondary education.
  • Knowledge of state, federal, and accrediting agencies' regulations related to data collection and research in higher education. Experience with HLC is required and experience with NASAD is preferred.
  • Knowledge of data privacy, ethics, reporting small numbers and deductive disclosure risks.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects in high pressure, time sensitive situations, while maintaining a commitment to quality.
  • Commitment to ideals of continuous improvement, supported by outstanding analytical, administrative and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across all levels of multidimensional organization as an agent of change.
  • A broad knowledge of outcomes assessment of both student learning and institutional effectiveness.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 

  • Master's degree in Educational Research, Behavioral Sciences or other fields relevant to institutional research from an accredited college or institution.
  • Three to five years of experience involving statistical research, analysis, interpretation and reporting and in providing experience providing leadership to an institutional research unit in an academic institution. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication, and presentation skills; with an ability to interpret and present data for a creative constituency of arts professionals.
  • Experience with data visualization and preparation of dashboards and high-level reports
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
  • Effective organizational and time management skills
