Director of Student Inclusion and Involvement

DESCRIPTION OF JOB:

The Director of Student Inclusion and Involvement provides oversight and leadership for the Office of Student Inclusion and Involvement and all related functions, services, and events. The office includes responsibilities in the areas of campus activities, student organizations, student leadership development, student diversity and inclusion, multicultural student advising program, and related grants in partnership with various College departments. The Director provides leadership and advocacy for the student experience related to involvement and inclusion across campus and provides outreach and connections between students and the greater Madison community. Works in close partnership with College departments responsible for related to inclusion and involvement work with students, faculty, and staff. Provides supervision for three full-time professionals in the office. As a member of the Division of Student Development, assists in engaging all students in meaningful educational experiences in and out of the classroom. Serves on institutional and division-wide committees.

Responsibilities:

  • Student Inclusion and Involvement Leadership
    • Bring leadership, vision, integrity and team-oriented philosophy to strategic student diversity, inclusion, and involvement efforts across institutional departments and divisions.
    • Develop, plan, implement, and assess strategic initiatives and programs that support the co-curricular engagement of all Edgewood College Students, including student organizations, student events and activities, new student and transfer student orientations, and student leadership development.
    • Provide leadership, supervision, strategic planning, oversight, and assessment for the functions within the area of student involvement and student diversity and inclusion to leverage resources, services, and programming.
    • In partnership with other campus departments, develop a common vision for an inclusive campus climate and support the development of steps to realize this vision including benchmarks and measuring progress
    • Organize the implementation of workshops, presentations, learning modules and other strategies that promote student diversity, equity, inclusion, and involvement.
    • Provide guidance and expertise on matters related to enhancing cultural competency initiatives as they relate to student success
  • Supervision
    • Hire, supervise, train, support and evaluate the Assistant Directors of Student Inclusion and Involvement, and the Office of Student Inclusion and Involvement Program Coordinator
    • Provide leadership for planning, implementing, documenting, and evaluating the programs and services offered through the area of Student Inclusion and Involvement, and assists in the development of manuals, guides and other materials necessary for efficient and effective administration and operation
    • Manage the staff in the area of Student Inclusion and Involvement, holding staff accountable for results of individual and shared goals
  • Outreach
    • Work in partnership with the Advancement Office to seek and secure external funding opportunities, grants and other financial support to enhance and advance the goals and objectives related to student involvement and inclusion efforts
    • Connect with community partners and stakeholders, organizations, and corporations to expand support and secure resources to achieve goals and objectives related to student involvement and inclusion
    • Educate constituents (internal and external) on the value and identified needs of the area of Student Involvement and Inclusion
  • Institutional and Divisional Leadership
    • Serve as senior staff member in the Division of Student Development, and work with the other Directors in the division to serve students and enhance their overall experience at Edgewood College. Attend all division meetings and retreats.
    • Represent the area of Student Inclusion and Involvement at meetings and events, both on and off campus, to enhance opportunities for partnership and collaboration
  • Administrative Functions
    • Assumes overall responsibility of the Student Inclusion and Involvement area total budget; develops and monitors the budget for assigned programs and functional areas
    • Evaluates and measures the success of all services within the area of Student Inclusion and Involvement for continuous improvement and development.
    • Researches and completes required reports and documents, including those requiring coordination with other campus departments
    • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned
    • College Service
      • Represent the Division of Student Development on institutional committees, task forces, and groups. Also serves on Student Development division-wide committees
  • Establishes relationships with other offices within student affairs, relevant college functions and external constituents to leverage the resources available to the make most effective, high impact programming and services available to students.
  • In partnership with college departments strategically market services and events of the department.
  • Develop and maintain all communications related to the department, including websites, press releases, and other external communications, in partnership with College Marketing and Communications.
  • Build relationships and networks with colleagues at partnering institutions (University of Wisconsin - Madison and Madison College) to enhance partnership and collaboration opportunities
  • Establish relationships with other offices within student development, relevant college functions, and external constituents to leverage the resources available to the make most effective, high impact programming and services available to students
  • Actively support Mission of Edgewood College and Student Development Staff
  • Participate in campus events as a department and division representative

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Education or Work Experience:

  • Master's degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or related field required.
  • Minimum 3+ years professional experience in college student affairs or related field (graduate assistant work may be considered).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student development concepts, theories, and issues pertaining to college students and higher education
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working in the areas of orientation, student involvement, diversity and inclusion, or student success in a higher education setting.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed

Preferred Work Experience:

  • Experience in leading/supervising graduate assistant and/or professional staff
  • Mid-level professional experience (5+ years) in the functional areas of new student orientation, campus activities, multicultural student services, diversity and inclusion, or student leadership development.
  • Experience and/or a depth of related knowledge in the areas of assessment and evaluation
