Job Description:

The Director of Student Engagement & Leadership provides leadership and management, and maintains accountability for Student Engagement and Leadership operations, including the planning, organizing and implementing student activities, leadership development, co-curricular programs. An employee assigned to this classification manages a single department and budget and may be assigned to supervise subordinate supervisors. Maintains ultimate responsibility for the area under authority.

1) Responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive student life program which enhances student learning, engagement, recruitment, and retention at Columbus State, this is a comprehensive community college with two campuses, multiple regional learning centers, and distance learning.

2) Provides leadership and management, and maintains financial accountability for the Office of Student Engagement and Leadership.

3) Supervises staff and operations by assigning and delegating tasks, providing direction, resolving work problems, communicating job expectations, training employees, and developing professional growth development opportunities.

4) Conducts annual employee evaluations, and effectively recommends pay increases, promotions, and other personnel actions.

5) Approves leaves and authorizes overtime as appropriate.

6) Participates in employee selection process.

7) Administers disciplinary actions upon approval, and in collaboration with Human Resources.

8) Carries out, explains, interprets and enforces policy, and maintains responsibility for administering and managing department budget.

9) Develops and administers department publications.

10) Develops grant proposals and seeks outside funding for student development programs and projects.

11) Administers department marketing plan and coordinates marketing and promotional efforts of student and employee programs and services.

12) Administers, develops and implements student leadership, wellness, volunteer and social programs and other activities, as well as collaborate on cultural programming.

13) Develops and implements goals, objectives and outcome measures for the department.

14) Oversees the organization of student participation on college-wide committees, and collaborates with community agencies and organizations.

15) Maintains confidentiality of student records and other information.

16) Works an assigned schedule, exhibits regular and predictable attendance, and works as required meeting workload demands.

17) Performs other related duties as required.

Usual Physical Demands: The incumbent of this position typically exhibits the physical demands identified in the Functional Job Analysis on file in the College's Human Resources Department and which is periodically reviewed and updated. Physical demands listed in the Functional Job Analysis are not job qualification standards, but are used to help the College assess and determine reasonable accommodations for otherwise qualified individuals covered by the American's with Disabilities Act.

While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into a computer. The employee regularly sits for extended periods of time, and occasionally stands and walks. Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts up to 10 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, or closely related field with at least five years' of college or university professional full-time experience in Student Affairs, experience supervising professional staff members, and State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
