Energy Manager

Brown University seeks an Energy Manager is responsible for implementing energy programming and identifying best practices to meet the University's energy, emissions and savings goals. Perhaps most importantly this position will ensure the energy team collaborates effectively with Operations and Design &Construction and departments across campus - requiring the individual to work with Operations and D&C to develop a comprehensive understanding of how the Office of Sustainability, Operations, and D&C can best complement each other and meet all divisional goals and outcomes.

This position will provide technical support in the development and implementation of energy programs including energy efficiency projects and self-generation projects. The EM will oversee the two Energy Engineers and the Energy Project Manager and will oversee the split time of the Systems Programmer housed in Operations. This position will be responsible for demand response/limiting, GHG tracking and reporting, supporting the University's energy goals, and energy management tools. The EM will be the primary utility and emissions advisor on all capital projects and major renovations.

Qualifications:

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering/scientific discipline and 7 years of related experience, or equivalent;
  • Experience in a complex, multi-building environment;
  • Diverse knowledge of many trade areas including: mechanical, electrical (including high voltage), fire alarm, sprinkler, elevator, plumbing, pipe fitting, HVAC and controls technology, district cooling and heating systems, and building electrical distribution and service systems;
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of engineering principles, methods, and techniques;
  • Knowledge and understanding of all relevant federal and state laws, regulations, and operating guidelines; Significant experience in energy management/energy auditing of facilities, preferably with research facility management and auditing experience;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community;
  • Ability to provide technical leadership and project management to engineering projects of high complexity and broad-ranging scope;
  • Ability to adapt and modify engineering techniques and develop original model concepts.
