Job Description:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed below. Reasonable accommodations will be made for disabled persons, covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act, in accordance with its requirements.

1) Prepare paint surfaces by washing, taping, mudding, patching, scraping, and sanding. Paint interior and exterior campus spaces including classrooms, offices, lobby areas, and buildings; matches paints and stains to specified colors,cleans and maintains brushes, rollers, and equipment; safely store materials in
designated area and dispose of material according to federal, state, and local regulations.

2) May assemble office furniture to manufacturer specifications, including but not limited to work stations, tables, desks, bookcases, shelves, filing cabinets, and chairs. Disassemble office furniture as needed.

3) Hang coat racks, shelves, mirrors, clocks, bulletin boards, blackboards and picture hangings according to customer's specification; repair items as needed.

4) May conduct building services upkeep duties to include, but not limited to changing clock batteries, resetting clocks, installing and repairing paper towel and soap dispensers.

5) May perform minor cleaning tasks if necessary. Sweeps, dusts, mops floors. Operates carpet cleaner and spot-cleans carpet. Dusts and polishes furniture, woodwork and other fixtures. Uses various cleaning agents.

6) Ensure cleanliness and appearance of facilities by monitoring classrooms, offices, lobbies, restrooms and secured administrative areas. Reports all issues to Facilities Support Supervisor.

7) May assist in moving office and conference room furniture, such as desks, chairs, cabinets, bookcases, etc. within rooms, between buildings, regional learning centers and campuses. Replaces, removes or reorganizes classroom and lobby furnishings on campus and at off-campus sites.

8) May assist in moving items such as stage equipment, tables and chairs in support of event set-ups for campus meetings, classroom activities, public events, or conferences.

9) Locate and remove any inappropriate markings, stickers, decals, advertisement or graffiti.

10) Report visible damages in areas of building to include wall, ceiling, stairwells and floor.

11) Report unsafe, abnormal or destructive use of buildings, classrooms, lobbies and their contents to public safety.

12) Perform safe clean-up, removal, and disposal of blood borne pathogens and other infectious or hazardous materials.

13) Respond and perform emergency cleanup related to weather emergencies. Clear walkways and stairs of ice and snow. Shovel and apply calcium and salt to area. Sweep debris or snow from entrances and exits.

14) Drive campus vehicles to pick-up and deliver supplies, furniture and other equipment.

15) Operate fork-lift to move and relocate heavy furnishings or equipment.

16) Enter, fulfill and submit completed works orders accurately and promptly.

17) May support parking operations with lot setups, closures, and staffing as needed.

18) Work assigned schedule, exhibits regular and predictable attendance and works overtime as required to meet workload demands. May perform additional duties as assigned.

Working Conditions:

Good working conditions but with regular exposure to dirt, dust, debris, smells and various cleaning agents and chemicals. Employee is regularly exposed to wet, humid or other outdoor weather conditions. Employee is regularly exposed to minor cuts, burns or other situations that may cause injury with occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock. Employee may experience regular exposure to work in high, precarious places. Employee is occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic materials with regular exposure to blood borne pathogens.

The following physical demands are typically exhibited by position incumbents performing this job's essential duties and responsibilities. While performing duties of this job, the employee frequently stands and walks and uses hands to hold and control tools and equipment. The employee regularly reaches with hands and arms, and stoops, kneels, crouches and crawls. The employee exhibits usual vision demands, with little or no detail or long
distance requirements. The employee may occasionally move chairs, tables and other furniture of standard size and weight and may walk on wet or slippery floors. Employee occasionally lifts or exerts force on items, with varying weights of more than 50 pounds.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: standard custodial methods, materials, equipment and supplies; common safety practices, efficient and practical recycling methods, and standards. Skill in: verbal and written communication; operation of vacuum cleaner, buffer, and other custodial and recycling equipment. Ability to: understand and follow general instructions; perform manual labor for extended periods of time; lift and carry furniture with varying weights; develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, job contacts and general public; analyze processes and make recommendations for improvements; identify areas in need of custodial and maintenance work; gather data, compile information, and prepare reports, maintain accurate and complete work records.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED required with at least one year performing facilities support duties including commercial painting. Must have a state motor vehicle operator's license, and must be insurable to operate a vehicle as a condition of initial and continued employment. Possession of or ability to obtain required Forklift Operator's Certificate within 180 days of employment. Familiar with proper safety procedures and personal protective equipment.
