Synopsis of Role:

 

The Facilities Technician of this position is to provide facilities support for American Public University System's (APUS) Charles Town and Manassas, VA offices. The incumbent will be based in and primarily work at the Charles Town campus.

 

Essential Functions:

 

• Maintains and performs preventative maintenance on campus heating, ventilation and air condition (HVAC) systems such as Mitsubishi and York Trane.

 

• Performs minor repairs on plumbing and electrical issues.

 

• Provides support for various campus functions and events hosted by APUS.

 

• Replaces air conditioning filters throughout campus.

 

• Maintains and repairs kitchen appliances.

 

• Assists in the replacement of interior and exterior lamps and fixtures.

 

• Assists with the removal of snow at entrances and walkways and apply snow melt as necessary.

 

• Occasional trips to Manassas, VA office

 

• Other duties as assigned

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

 

• This is a standard office environment setting (Charles Town, WV and Manassas, VA,).

 

• Must be able to work with hand tools on a daily basis.

 

• Must be able to perform assigned tasks effectively and efficiently.

 

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds or more.

 

• Position does require some walking up and down stairs carrying equipment and tools.

• General plumbing knowledge required.

 

• Technical school certification preferred.

 

• Computer literate in Microsoft Office preferred.
