RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision, the Fire and Life Safety Specialist is responsible for reviewing architectural and engineering construction plans and emergency operations procedures, conducting fire safety inspections of high risk or critical areas, and investigating non-arson fires. Inspect and evaluate major building system critical infrastructure and components to determine suitability and conformance to state and federal regulatory standards. Identify fire and life safety hazards in response to complaints received from the students, faculty, staff, visitors, and the general public. Review architectural and engineering construction plans for buildings to determine compliance with state and federal laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and standards. Review reports of the testing of fire detection, alarm, and suppression systems to verify that such systems are operational and functioning within the design parameters and are appropriate to the occupancy and fire load. Inspect new and existing building designs to determine code compliance. Prepare and conduct educational presentations concerning fire safety, building techniques, and fire safety standards for the campus community. Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with other University departments and outside agencies such as Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue.

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science, Science, Engineering, or equivalent and five years directly related experience in fire inspection or fire prevention work required. Certification as a Fire Inspector recognized by the Tennessee State Fire Marshal. Valid Tennessee Driver's License required.

SALARY RANGE: $44,492 - $55,392; commensurate with experience
