Columbus College of Art & Design is seeking a full-time faculty member for fall 2019 for its long-standing and respected Illustration program and its new innovative program in Comics & Narrative Practice. These projectbased curriculums provide talented young artists, designers and storytellers with the tools to achieve successful careers and practices in a variety of creative fields. With over 200 students, these programs also work with other areas of the college such as CORE studies, Animation, and Graphic Design to provide a robust education that prepares students technically, conceptually and professionally for meaningful pursuits in the Illustrative Arts, including print and digital publishing, design applications, business and educational communications, self-publishing, and entertainment media. Our goal is to educate artists who are imaginative and critical, capable of entrepreneurial initiative and collaborative engagement, and who are ultimately playfully, thoughtfully and critically involved in the discourse of society.

CCAD is looking for a faculty member with significant professional illustration/design experience and networks, who is energized by the challenge and promise of this opportunity. The successful candidates are well versed in both digital and traditional media, and have the demonstrated ability to seamlessly integrate the two. Subjects taught may include Introduction to Illustration, editorial illustration, children's book illustration, professional practices and capstone classes. The curriculum encourages students to find their unique voice and then supports them in finding the right professional context for their work. The college is looking for an individual who understands the importance of creativity for commerce as well as culture, and the value of strong business and narrative skills to the creative economy. Industry experience is essential and academic teaching and managing experience is required.

In Practice: We seek a colleague who is actively engaged in the contemporary illustration world. A knowledge base including current illustration, design and comics practices and methodologies, business understanding, and a fluency in cultural trends and educational practices is essential.

In Teaching: We value educators who are empathetic with creative high achieving students of diverse skills and backgrounds, and energized by working with them within a project-based real-world environment.

In Service: We expect leadership in undergraduate and graduate programs, curriculum development, advising, and governance within the departments, college and field at large.

Position: Full-time Faculty

Qualifications: A terminal degree in an appropriate field or demonstrated significant professional activity equivalent to a terminal degree along with 2-3 years of college level teaching is required. Rank will be commensurate with degree, professional experience, and years of full-time teaching.
