Job Summary
The Kentucky Geological Survey, a publicly supported research center within the University of Kentucky, is recruiting a geologist for a 3-year NSF-funded landslide hazard project. The responsibilities of this position include supporting installation of a field monitoring network to assess landslides in Kentucky. This includes:
- field installation of hydrologic monitoring equipment
- maintenance and upkeep of field monitoring station network
- knowledge of related software for data transfer and visualization
- working on data storage and transfer from cloud-based software to KGS servers
- helping manage KGS lab space for landslide hazard research
- performing spatial analysis using large GIS data sets
- becoming familiar with slope stability modeling
- assistance with stakeholder meetings
- presentation of research results at professional and/or community meetings
Required Education: Bachelors in Geoscience or Engineering
Required Experience: Basic landslide hazards and slope stability knowledge, ArcGIS Pro knowledge, Microsoft Excel, 5+ years of state issued driver’s license.
