Grants and Contracts Specialist

This position provides high-level comprehensive pre- and post- award management and financial services to the School of Engineering's (SoE) Research Administration office, faculty and students. Independently prepares and reviews sponsored award proposals using sound knowledge of University and sponsor (National Institute of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, DARPA, Department of Energy, private industry and foundations) rules and regulations for SoE submissions using the InfoEd/COEUS award management system, Grants.gov and other sponsor submission tools. As administrative liaison, manages portfolio sponsored research funding by reviewing, interpreting, and ensuring compliance with award terms and conditions. Provide guidance on sponsored project issues, advises and strategizes with PIs about funding opportunities, manages the proposal and sub-contracting submission, financial award management and oversight of SoE portfolio sponsored awards, related budgets and expenditure review. Reconcile accounts in accordance with federal and non-federal guidelines, audit accounts, and create financial and analytical reports for the PIs, Dean and school managers. Effectively communicate award and financial policies to students, faculty, and staff. Role of Cost Center Manager and Grant Manager for Workday Financial supporting sponsored cost transfers, financial reporting and SoE payroll costings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (concentration in Accounting, Finance or STEM preferred) and 3 to 5 years of finance and budget experience (preferably in academia or not-for-profit) and research administration experience or, equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, time management and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload in a multi-task environment while maintaining careful attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Docs, Web based programs and tools.
  • Excellent financial skills as well as familiarity with OMB federal circulars, federal agencies' policy and procedures, and other relevant federal agencies' practices.
  • Excellent customer service skills and a strong service - oriented attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills-both oral and written-to elicit and communicate information, to analyze data, and to prepare /present clear, informative, and concise materials.
  • File management skills.
  • Willingness and interest to assume increasing responsibilities, networking, leadership and training opportunities.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a deadline oriented environment.
  • Must be able to work with a diverse population and handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
