RESPONSIBILITIES: The Immigration Graduate Specialist International Enrollment (IE) will serve as a member of the International Affairs (IA) department and provide assistance with immigration services and advising for international graduate students. The Immigration Graduate Specialist – IE will provide guidance regarding admissions and immigration issues for prospective and current graduate international students. The Specialist will plan, coordinate, and implement orientation in conjunction with other International Affairs staff; serve as Designated School Official for graduate students in the F-1 program; conduct IA programming events (e.g., immigration related seminars, recruiting events, etc.) and help to maintain the technology needed to support the operations of IA (e.g., SEVIS reporting, fsaAtlas reporting, database lead generation, BANNER record maintenance, etc.) for approximately 230 enrolled international students with current annual applications exceeding 600. Serve as liaison for graduate international students at MTSU by providing immigration and personal counseling, and issue required immigration documents for incoming and continuing students. Guidance and counsel may include: immigration (i.e., maintaining status, updating status, reporting obligations); employment (e.g., on campus vs. off campus), tax obligations (i.e., the implications for working and paying taxes in the US), federal and state government regulations (e.g. travel, visa issuance, DMV, SSA), personal (i.e., live and study in the US), and financial (e.g., find a bank and open an account). The Specialist will maintain contact with students after graduation that choose to extend their stay in the US by participating in Optional Practical Training and perform other related duties or special projects as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s degree in higher education, international education (i.e., cross cultural counseling), business, marketing, communications, comparative and international education, anthropology, global studies, immigration law or a related field and three years progressively responsible related work experience in higher education, immigration, business, or customer relations required.  Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident as required by federal regulations to be a designated school official and alternate responsible officer, authorized as a signatory for student and scholar immigration documents.


SALARY RANGE:  $35,255 - $43,659; commensurate with experience
