Material Handler

Job Description:

1) Loads and unloads trucks, checks in shipments to ensure accuracy, notes damaged items, and performs other responsibilities to process deliveries.

2) Prepares and boxes completed print orders for delivery/shipping.

3) Delivers completed orders from Print Services to various areas around the Columbus campus

4) Maintains shipping and receiving documentation.

5) Maintains responsibility for keeping print shop, shipping and receiving area, warehouse and general merchandise areas clean and organized.

6) Operates fork lift, pallet jack and other material handling equipment to move and store items.

7) Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and predictable attendance and works overtime as required and approved to meet workload demands.

8) Performs other related duties as required.

While performing the duties of this job the employee frequently stands and walks and occasionally sits. The employee frequently uses hands to handle and feel and reaches with hands or arms. The employee regularly climbs or balances, stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls. The employee frequently converses verbally with others in person. The employee regularly lifts or exerts force on items up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions: Normal working conditions typical of a warehouse with frequent exposure to dirt, dust, debris and smells. Regular exposure to wet or humid conditions and outdoor weather conditions. Occasional exposure to extreme cold (non-weather) and extreme heat (non-weather). Occasional exposure to risk of electrical shock, work with explosives, toxic or caustic materials. Regular exposure to minor cuts, burns, or incapacitating injury, fumes, or airborne particles. Regular work near moving parts and in high precarious places. Frequent exposure to loud noise typical to a warehouse.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: general warehousing practices; safety practices related to material moving and storage. Skill in: operating forklift and other material handling equipment; completing forms; maintaining basic work records. Ability to: develop and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, general public, delivery drivers and other job contacts.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications for this position are: High School Diploma or GED with at least one year of progressively responsible experience in shipping and receiving or closely related field. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).

Preferred Qualifications: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software and familiarity with copier operation.
