Job Description:

1) Serves as lead worker and works alongside of Material Handler I's. Provides general guidance and direction on routine day-to-day work activities.

2) Loads and unloads trucks, checks in shipments to ensure accuracy, notes damaged items and performs other responsibilities to process deliveries.

3) Maintains shipping and receiving documentation.

4) Maintains responsibility for keeping shipping and receiving area, warehouse and general merchandise areas clean and organized.

5) Prepares and boxes items for shipping.

6) Operates fork lift, pallet jack and other material handling equipment to move and store items.

7) Works assigned schedule, exhibits regular and predictable attendance and works overtime as required and approved to meet workload demands.

8) Performs other related duties as required.

Usual Physical Demands: The incumbent of this position typically exhibits the physical demands identified in the Functional Job Analysis on file in the College's Human Resources Department and which is periodically reviewed and updated. Physical demands listed in the Functional Job Analysis are not job qualification standards, but are used to help the College assess and determine reasonable accommodations for otherwise qualified individuals covered by the American's with Disabilities Act.

While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly sits, and occasionally stands and walks. The employee regularly uses hands to handle and feel and occasionally reaches with hands or arms, climbs or balances, stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls. The employee regularly converses verbally with others in person. The employee occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds when lifting mail, printed materials and supplies.

Working Conditions: Normal working conditions typical of a mailroom, with frequent exposure to dirt, dust and debris. Occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions. Occasional exposure to minor cuts, burns, or other incapacitating injury, fumes or airborne particles. Employee regularly works near moving parts. Employee is occasionally exposed to road conditions when picking up and delivery mail.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: general warehousing practices; safety practices related to material moving and storage. Skill in: operating forklift and other material handling equipment; completing forms; maintaining basic work records. Ability to: develop and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, students, general public, truckers, and other job contacts; provide general direction and guidance to others in performance of day-to-day work activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED with at least three years of progressively responsible experience in shipping and receiving or closely related field. Ability to obtain Forklift Operator's Certification within probationary period. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).

Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience in mail center, warehousing inventory and accountability distribution and document digitizing operations.
