Mgr,Risk Mgmt,Ins & Claims

The Manager of Risk, Insurance and Claims is responsible for leading efforts in risk assessment, management and mitigation. This position should work in partnership with departments across campus to approach risk and loss control matters in a collaborative and proactive approach that enables UNM to accomplish its mission related educational goals.

Responsibilities include:

1. Managing the university's property and casualty insurance programs,

2. Coordinating claim and loss recovery management,

3. Leading proactive risk assessment and reduction strategies and facilitation solutions to risk related issues,

4. Serving as the point of contact with external partners such as insurance brokers, carriers, underwriters, claims adjusters, attorneys and service providers,

5. Reviewing insurance coverage for adequacy and recommend additional coverages,

6. Explore optional insurance funding mechanisms as appropriate to assess risk transfer versus retention capabilities.

7. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements,

8. Maintain a roster of UNM drivers and monitor training requirements,

9. Coordinate with environmental health and safety to meet regulatory requirements,

10. Maintain insurance policies, attaching additions and endorsements as received,

11. Develop, recommend and maintain best practices and appropriate exceptions for indemnification, hold harmless requirements and insurance requirements,

12. Conduct investigations regarding loss control and accidents as appropriate.

  • Possession of a valid New Mexico driver's license is a requirement for this job.

Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

1. ARM Certification or CPCU Certification,

2. 5 or more years' experience supervising employees,

3. Excellent negotiation and analytical skills,

4. High commitment to customer service and exceptional interpersonal skills working with administrators, faculty, students and peers in responding to the demand of a university community,

5. Risk management experience in higher education,

6. Experience with the New Mexico Tort Claims Act,
