Job Description:

1) Teaches GED preparation curriculum topics including, but not limited to Language Arts, mathematics (through high school level), science and/or social studies, as directed by Supervisor according to assigned schedule; identify, plan, and implement learning activities appropriate to student needs; answer questions and provide assistance to students regarding assignments and classroom activities.

2) Assists, as appropriate, in the maintenance of course materials and facilities. Employ appropriate assessment techniques to measure student performance in achieving course goals and objectives; communicate progress in the course to students in a timely manner.

3) Keeps accurate and appropriate records of attendance and scores in accordance with established college and departmental policies and procedures.

4) Assists in the identification of students with academic or other needs, and respond by utilizing an appropriate resource.

5) Works assigned schedule, exhibit regular and predictable attendance, and work as required in order to meet workload demands.

6) Performs other related duties as required.

Usual Physical Demands: The incumbent of this position typically exhibits the physical demands identified in the Functional Job Analysis on file in the College's Human Resources Department and which is periodically reviewed and updated. Physical demands listed in the Functional Job Analysis are not job qualification standards, but are used to help the College assess and determine reasonable accommodations for otherwise qualified individuals covered by the American's with Disabilities Act.

While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. The employee regularly sits for extended periods of time, and occasionally stands and walks. Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts up to 10 pounds.

Working Conditions: Normal office working conditions.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: adult learning theory; delivery of adult instruction; technology in learning. Skill in: verbal, non-verbal, and written communication to various audiences; presenting information in a logical manner using appropriate learning aids; defining clear goals and measuring student progress toward said goals; maintaining accurate electronic records. Ability to: understand students' needs and concerns; differentiate instruction appropriately; build collaborative relationships with people of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with at least one year of experience; State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).

Preferred Qualifications: Significant experience in teaching basic skills/GED preparation; demonstrated excellence within an adult learning organization.
