Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant

Brown Health Services is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our staff. Reporting to the Clinical Director of Health Services, the position provides primary medical care and health education to students.

Please Note: The FTE for the position is flexible with a minimum of a .80 FTE to a 1.0, full-time FTE.

- This is a 12 month position; 4-5 days per week during the academic year, including some evening and weekend coverage during the academic year.

- Weekend coverage is 2-3 weekends per semester.

- Summer weekday coverage is required and will vary depending on the position FTE and staffing needs.

Health Services, an accredited AAAHC health center, offers comprehensive primary care services to more than 9,000 students, providing 31,000 annual visits. Services available on-site include primary and urgent medical care, dietician visits, laboratory, x-ray, pharmacy, and immunizations. Other departments under Health and Wellness include Counseling and Psychological Services, BWell Health Promotion and Emergency Medical Services.

Qualifications:

For NP candidates:

● Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program required

● Current Registered Nurse (RN) license and Certified Nurse Practitioner with prescription privileges (CNP) license in Rhode Island required

● Current certification as Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, or equivalent certifying body, required

● Primary care clinical experience as a Nurse Practitioner required

For PA candidates:

● Current Rhode Island Physician Assistant License required

● Certification by the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants required

● Primary care clinical experience as a Physician Assistant required

For both NP's and PA's:

● DEA license is required

● BLS CPR certification required

● Experience providing culturally competent care to a diverse population required; experience working with diverse student populations strongly preferred

● Patient education and social skills necessary for working with young adult population preferred

● Ability to work as part of a collaborative team in group practice

● Commitment to Quality Improvement principles

● Experience with a clinical practice using an electronic medical record

● Applicants from under-represented groups are encouraged to apply

● Second language fluency is highly desirable

● Specialized focus or training in sports medicine and/or kinesiology preferred
