Postdoctoral Fellow

Participate as a member of a National Science Foundation-funded educational research team. The goal of this team is to explore the benefits of applying imaginative education through digital storytelling in designing NGSS-aligned middle school curricula. Once created, the curricula will be implemented in 6th-grade classrooms throughout Springfield Public Schools to research its impact on learning and the development of STEM identity.

The postdoctoral fellow will play a central role in designing and implementing the research plan. This will include helping to develop and implement curricula and assessment instruments; analyzing data; and publishing and disseminating research results. The fellow will receive extensive support and mentoring from both engineering and education faculty members.

Work with the research team and Springfield Public School teachers to develop digital storytelling curricula based on Imaginative Education theory.

Develop and help implement assessment instruments for measuring changes in learners' capacities to engage in both innovative and direct application of engineering concepts. Then participate in analyzing the collected data.

Play a role in disseminating the research results by helping to prepare manuscripts for publication, writing research reports and attending professional conferences.

Attend and sometimes lead project team meetings.

Help manage various aspects of the grants, including: overseeing undergraduate student researchers; reporting to the National Science Foundation; managing the budget; and preparing materials for the Institutional Review Board.

Assist the project team in researching additional funding sources and potentially preparing additional grant proposals during the term of the grant.

Education/Experience: Doctorate in the learning sciences or a related field with an emphasis on learning and pedagogy. Science and engineering education as a specialty would be desirable.

Skills: Knowledgeable in educational assessment and statistical analysis.

This is a two year, limited term, grant funded position.
