About Citrus College:

Celebrating over 100 years of service, Citrus College is located in Glendora in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, approximately twenty-five miles northeast of metropolitan Los Angeles. The college has the distinction of being the oldest community college in Los Angeles County and the fifth oldest in the state.

Citrus College was founded in 1915 under the leadership of Dr. Floyd S. Hayden, who helped bring the community college movement to California. From 1915 to 1961, the college was operated by the Citrus Union High School District. In July 1961, the Citrus Community College District was created to include the Azusa and Glendora unified school districts. In 1967, the district expanded to include the Claremont, Duarte and Monrovia school districts.

Today, Citrus College occupies a 104-acre campus. The college is currently experiencing a major facilities expansion project that will change the look of the campus. The college enrolled 27 students in 1915 and currently the college serves more than 19,000 students annually. Classes are offered on a 16-week calendar (fall and spring semesters), as well as in a variety of non-traditional scheduling options -- winter intersession, evenings, summer sessions, and optional class formats, such as online education courses.

Under the direction of the Superintendent/President, the Protocol and Community Relations Supervisor serves as the District's contact and liaison to elected officials, community agencies and businesses, and on behalf of the District and the Board of Trustees coordinates external activities and special projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


• Serves as the Superintendent/President's primary liaison with the external college community, including governmental agencies, local elected officials, and community businesses and organizations.

• May represent the District at community events and meetings of local, state, and national organizations.

• Assists with the planning of various campus events.

• Attends various college events, meetings and forums.

• Prepares "Board Highlights" for each Board of Trustees meeting.

• Writes trustee communications, including guest columns, and reports to the community, annual report cover letters, and other trustee communications.

• Plans and oversees special events and campus visits by legislators and state officials.

• Arranges and plans lobbying efforts on behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Superintendent/President.

• Establishes and maintains relationships with community college organizations and area community colleges to address common concerns.

• Maintains positive working relationships with other departments on campus.

• Communicates District policy and administrative decisions to assigned personnel and students.

• Creates an atmosphere of collegiality and supports the goals of participatory governance.

• Supervises and evaluates assigned personnel.

• Resolves conflict.

• Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position and the District's mission and philosophy.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:


• Knowledge of the state education code, the legislative process, and the groups advocating on behalf of community colleges.

• Thorough knowledge of policies, goals and objectives of the District and Board of Trustees.

• Knowledge of community college education in California.

• Knowledge of protocol appropriate for contacts with elected officials, trustees, community agencies, business and chambers of commerce.

• Knowledge of research methodology.

• Interpersonal skills necessary to relate to state and national legislators and their staff.

• Ability to perform all of the relevant duties of the position with only general direction.

• Ability to work effectively in a shared governance environment.

• Ability to provide customer support from a management level.

• Ability to provide customer service protocol with a customer service-oriented priority.

Preferred Qualifications:


• Five years or more of experience working in a higher education environment.

• Experience working with various social media platforms.

Education and Experience:


• Possession of a bachelor's degree, and two years of experience reasonably related to the duties and responsibilities of this assignment.
