Synopsis of Role:

American Public University System (APUS) seeks a part-time Registrar Services Specialist. The incumbent must be a customer service, detail oriented, highly organized, with the ability to multitask and work independently. The position works with students to assists with registration, withdrawing from courses and activities associated with course enrollment and maintaining a student's academic record. The registrations specialist position is located in the Charles Town, WV campus.

Essential Functions:

• Responds to APUS student phone and e-mail inquiries concerning registration, grades, extensions, drops, withdrawals, probation, and other Registrar office tasks within one business day while complying with the family educational rights and privacy act (FERPA).

• Works with students, staff, and faculty to resolve student issues positively and collaboratively.

• Understands APUS policies, programs, and procedures to provide assistance and guidance to students in these areas while enforcing University policies.

• Conducts work with strong personal and professional ethics and integrity. Works collegially with University students, staff, and faculty as well as external constituents.

• Balances needs of internal and external constituencies and uses good judgment when making decisions.

• Assists students with manual registrations and withdrawals, while maintaining accurate records.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

• Standard office environment in Charles Town, WV.

• Occasional travel to Manassas, VA .

• Ability to telecommute.

• Shift work schedules based upon department need, Monday-Friday, afternoon/evenings and weekends.


Required Skills:

• Understanding of higher education organization.

• Understanding of online learning structure and purpose.

• Understanding of student development and learning.

• Excellent customer service skills.

Required Experience:

• Bachelor's degree required.

• Two years of professional office experience required.

• Prior experience in a registrar's office or other academic environment preferred.

• Strong customer service experience preferred.
