Research Development & Support Specialist

This position assists the Director with specialized tasks that encompass scientific research, as well as administrative needs for the Carney Institute for Brain Science. The incumbent will 1) assist the Director in research management of the Lipscombe laboratory, and 2) assist the Director in high level administrative support for special projects that require technical and scientific expertise. Research management responsibilities will involve collaborations with the Department of Neuroscience administrative team, as well as senior members of the research laboratory. Institute administrative responsibilities will involve collaborations with Carney Institute leadership team including Managing Director, Communications Director and Research Specialist, as well as the administrative support staff. Duties include working directly with the Director to: 1) ensure appropriate staffing of the research laboratory, writing research grant applications, helping to finalize research manuscripts including writing, generating figures and data analysis; and 2) within the Carney Institute to plan and execute up to 3 special events each year to improve public outreach, enhance non-expert understanding of the brain, and promote advocacy for funding for brain research.

Job Qualifications:

• PhD level qualification in Neuroscience and experience in calcium ion channels preferred

• Experience and ideally success in applying for research funding

• Experience publishing scientific research, skills in data analysis and manuscript preparation

• Hands on experience in brain science/scientific outreach

• Experience in teaching and communication to both experts and non-experts

• Strong verbal communications skills

• Ability to work as part of a team and exceptional interpersonal skills

• Interest in creativity in developing outreach programs to local community

• Passion for communication through a variety of media including print, web, social media

• Flexibility
