Senior Computing Support Technician

The role of the Senior Computing Support Technician is to support and maintain the advanced desktop computer resources at the College. The focus of the position is to develop, administer, and maintain the desktop computing resources, image deployment services, and software provisioning services as directed by the Manager of Computing Support Services. The technician is responsible for setup and implementation of all college personal computing systems. This position is also responsible for working with the Manager of Computing Support Services on development and implementation of software and hardware resources to ensure system compatibility and usefulness.

The Senior Computing Support Technician has to assign and oversee work performed by the approximately 20 student workers and four externs. This position trains student workers and externs, and schedules students to ensure labs are properly staffed., Senior Computing Support Technician

1. Directly related professional work experience (may be earned concurrently) in the following areas:
a. Two years of experience providing computer support via phone, email, chat or similar methods, and
b. Three years of experience with desktop computer support, and
c. Two years of experience with computer maintenance and hardware, computer terminology and procedures, basic methods of troubleshooting and technical assistance. Also ability to operate computer hardware, software and peripheral equipment.
2. Knowledge of Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1 operating systems, MS Office 2010 – 2013, and HP printers in a networked environment.
3. Knowledge consistent with troubleshooting at the hardware and software layers to support client/server applications and integrated systems.
4. Demonstrated positive communication and teamwork skills. Have the ability to multitask and prioritize.
5. Strong initiative and the ability to work successfully in an environment with minimal direction.
6. Demonstrated work history of providing high quality, strong customer-oriented services including:
a. problem solving orientation
b. strong listening skills
c. history of coordinated work effort with extensive follow-through and follow-up
d. experience identifying customer needs
e. effective communication and people skills.
7. Ability and interest to function effectively as a team player.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Possession of an Associates, Bachelors or higher degree in computer science, information systems or related field.
2. Two years of experience with deploying desktop computer images using Microsoft imaging tools (SCCM, WDS, etc.).
3. Two years of experience creating Microsoft Windows reference (“gold”) desktop computer images.
4. Familiarity with and experience in a higher education organizational structure and computing infrastructure.
5. Experience using, troubleshooting, and imaging Apple Mac computers with the Mac OS X operating system.
6. Possession of A+ training certification or equivalent.
7. Experience with Google Apps or other SaaS collaboration applications.
8. Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve difficult network and system related problems using troubleshooting and decision making skills.
9. One year experience working with Linux based systems (eg, Red Hat Linux).
10. One year experience maintaining and supporting a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) computer environment (eg, VMware Horizon View).
