Senior Director, Custodial Services

Brown University seeks a Senior Director, Custodial Services (SDCS) to provide strategic leadership and administrative oversight to Custodial operations. Provides leadership in long-term planning and strategies to meet the needs of the University. In addition, the SDCS plays a central role in building and maintaining relationships between the various offices within Facilities Management as well as all the department within the University.

The SDCS will develop, plan and implement programs and activities to improve and enhance custodial services. Develop and implement operating standards, policies, and long and short range goals. Develop and implement service delivery processes and procedures; initiate and/or maintain continuous process improvement and quality control programs. Collects, analyzes and synthesizes information from multiple sources, as needed, to develop work execution and performance studies, metrics, infographics and reports that detail the quality/quantity of Custodial Operations. Prepares complex technical, analytical, and statistical assessments for executive management that presents and interprets data, identifies alternatives; present and justify conclusions, forecasts, and recommendations in support of Custodial operations, process improvement and work execution. Provide executive leadership and administrative services to the Custodial division. Evaluate staff performance, set staff goals, providing guidance and coaching, and encourage development opportunities. Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization's goals and objectives. Provide strategic oversight of the staffing process, creating staffing plans and overseeing a selection process that results in quality hires. Create engagement, retention and succession plans. Provide strategic oversight of the Custodial budget, establishing priorities to assure optimum allocation of fiscal and human resources. Evaluate departmental procedures to streamline and/or automate processes. Develop and implement an inter-and intra-departmental communication strategy to ensure opportunities to communicate with staff and stakeholders. Schedule consistent staff meetings with direct reports and indirect reports, sharing relevant information and keeping open lines of communication. Working closely with the Direct of Facilities Services, meet regularly with stakeholders and University constituents to understand their needs and concerns, and to discuss ways to improve services.

Requires a Bachelor's degree and 10 years of progressively responsible management experience in the Custodial field. The ideal candidate will have first-hand experience providing strategic direction, leadership and oversight for custodial services in a service-oriented organization in a large, complex institution; broad-based management experience and a proven record of achievement leading change, managing resources, streamlining processes and systems, developing a strong, high-performing team, and a commitment to continuous improvement; Working knowledge of work order management computer software, with a demonstrated capacity to work within a variety of software platforms to manage operational needs. Experience working in a union environment preferred. Considerable knowledge of strategic budget practices, employee management, and working with vendor contracts and services.
