Senior Director, Intentional Redesign

ColumbiaDoctors, the physicians and surgeons of Columbia University, is seeking an individual that will develop and lead the Office of Intentional Redesign for the ambulatory practices in our faculty practice in preparation for an enterprise-wide implementation of the Epic system.

The ideal candidate will manage and lead a team of individuals who are experienced in change management principles and who have specific expertise in clinical and business process in the ambulatory setting. The team will partner with the leadership in Columbia's clinical departments to educate their change agents in the methodology of change management, develop and provide them with a "change toolbox," and support them through the process of change prior to, during, and after the implementation.

The ideal candidate will have past experience in change management at an organizational level as well as relationship-building expertise that includes the ability to garner buy-in with a diverse group of stakeholders that encompasses senior executives, physician leaders, departmental administrators and front line physicians and staff. This will form the critical foundation for the broad-based initiative necessary to transform the organization.


  1. Create partnerships with the key stakeholders within ColumbiaDoctors, Columbia clinical departments, and EpicTogether project team, and apply a structured methodology to co-lead change management activities in the ambulatory practices and revenue cycle
  2. Create the strategy for the change management process and develop tools to support adoption of the changes required by the project
  3. Conduct impact analyses, assess change readiness, and identify key stakeholders
  4. Lead the intentional redesign team to:
  1. Assess the processes that will be affected by the changes, and complete change management assessments of each department
  2. Identify the change agents, key stakeholders, influencers, and leaders within each department, and educate them in the change management process
  3. Identify, analyze, and prepare risk mitigation tactics and anticipated resistance

4 Working with the departments, create actionable deliverables for the five change management levers:

  1. i. communications plan
  2. ii. sponsor roadmap
  3. iii. coaching plan
  4. iv. training plan
  5. v. resistance management plan
  6. Support organizational design and definition of roles and responsibilities
  7. Assist change agents in managing stakeholders
  8. Track and report issues

Define and measure success metrics and monitor change progress

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

  • Master's degree in management/business administration, public health, or health-related field required; clinical degree preferred
  • 5-7 years of progressive management experience in a large organization
  • 3-5 years of experience in an organizational change management position leading business process transformation, at least some of which is related to the introduction of new technology
  • Direct experience leading change and using organizational change management methodologies and techniques
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Experience working within the health sector preferred
