Senior Psychometrician/Statistician

The Psychometrician for the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) will work under the supervision of the Associate Dean of the CTL and Educational Research to provide psychometric and statistical support and services related to Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM) directives to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of the RUSM curriculum, teaching, and assessment methods across the medical degree program. The Psychometrician will apply rigorous analytical approaches to understanding, visualizing, and modeling educational and clinical data to evaluate program and faculty development effectiveness, enhance educational and administrative decision-making, and directly support medical education research and scholarship.

The Psychometrician provides statistical analysis and interpretation of results as it applies to the RUSM primary mandate to enhance overall program effectiveness and student academic success. The Psychometrician applies necessary knowledge of statistical procedures, psychometric methods, and statistical programming (i.e., SPSS, R) to work independently on most aspects of statistical analysis work, while receiving direction and guidance in other assessment and evaluation initiatives.



  • Leads basic psychometric/statistical analyses and directs identified research projects.
  • Accountable for advance statistical design and analysis decisions under supervision.
  • Ensures quality control of data compilation and analysis, results interpretation, and reporting deliverables.
  • Performs and monitors statistical analyses required for data reporting and interpretation of results.
  • Conducts research-based analyses and contributes to the development of results interpretation for RUSM and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Represents organization's position on technical issues to RUSM stakeholders, professional associations, and other designated organizations.
  • Works independently to meet timelines/deadlines by applying the principles of project management.
  • Takes responsibility for specific aspects of psychometric project work, as identified by the Associate Dean of CTL, including writing project materials and the design of research/assessment instruments.
  • Assists in conducting quantitative research through statistical and psychometric analysis of research and assessment data.
  • Develop programming packages (i.e., SPSS, R) to automate routine evaluation and assessment data analysis procedures, with a focus on RUSM and identified research project initiatives.
  • Deliver presentations and potential workshops to share best practices in data analysis and interpretation in medical education.
  • Collaborate with faculty, educational leadership, and administrators in order to ensure accurate and efficient use of data for decision-making and to design, conduct and report on educational research projects.



  • Participation in designated working groups as agreed with line manager.
  • Attending departmental or designated RUSM-wide meetings.
  • Presenting at identified seminars, symposiums, and conferences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, with colleagues and administers.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

  • Ph.D. in Psychometrics, Statistics, Psychological Measurement, Education Measurement or related field with an emphasis on quantitative data analyses or psychometrics.
  • Training and experience in psychometric research and statistics; examples may include item response theory, scaling and equating, psychometric scale construction, interrater reliability, multiple regression, multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) and covariance (MANCOVA), exploratory factor analysis, generalizability analysis, discriminant analysis, etc.
  • Experience in a post-secondary setting, preferably in a medical education or related health care program with interpreting and reporting descriptive and inferential results.
  • Experienced user of SPSS and R statistical software, including other statistical packages such as SAS and STATA.
  • Ability to work effectively in an interpersonal and collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills in both written and spoken English.
