Social Sciences Instruction Librarian

Initiate, conduct, and assess course-related library instruction and other instructional activities for a broad range of classes. Serve as the library’s instruction liaison to departments in the Social Sciences, including Anthropology, Economics, Education & Child Study, History, Sociology and Study of Women & Gender. Participate in the Libraries’ full range of in-person and virtual reference and research services as a member of the Learning, Research, and Technology Department.

Provide library instruction, reference, and research assistance for a broad range of classes. Provide specialized guidance on research methods and resources, both print and electronic, across multiple interfaces of licensed online databases and relevant internet resources. Develop subject content for the Libraries’ website, maintaining the Anthropology, Economics, Education & Child Study, History, Sociology and Study of Women & Gender subject resource pages, creating and maintaining class guides, and other web?based tools and digital information services.

Provide general reference service -- point of service, on-call, virtual -- along with other members of the Learning, Research, and Technology Group (LRT). Contribute to the Libraries’ Zotero citation management software support including both individual assistance and group instruction.

Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience: Master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited program or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years’ experience in libraries.

Skills: A strong commitment to public service; knowledge of current issues and methods of library instruction/information literacy for undergraduate students; familiarity with social sciences resources and research; excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to work flexibly, independently and collaboratively with colleagues and library users in a rapidly changing service-oriented environment. Familiarity with academic library databases and interfaces (EBSCO, Proquest, Gale), content management systems (LibGuides), Google Suite, and citation management software (RefWorks, Zotero) is desirable, but not required.

This is a half-time, 6 month limited-term position. with benefits.
