Strategic Sourcing Category Manager – Facilities

The Strategic Sourcing Category Manager - Facilities will be part of the Strategic Sourcing Team in Purchasing Services in partnership with Facilities Management and will be the dedicated category manager focused on improving procurement practices within Facilities Management (FM) for the purpose of reducing spend on materials and contracted services. This person will collaborate with FM stakeholders to enhance category management, execute strategic sourcing events, and monitor/report on key metrics (spend on contracts, savings realized, etc.). This position will also be responsible for reviewing and processing purchase requisitions for this category.

Specific responsibilities include: identifying, promoting/initiating, and managing strategic sourcing opportunities through historical spend data analysis; working closely with FM staff to co-develop sourcing requirements and supplier evaluation criteria; facilitating the procurement process including Request for Proposals (RFPs) in compliance with University procurement guidelines; managing the contracting process and preferred supplier relationships, and providing ongoing oversight of key supplier relationships.

Success in this position involves facilitating collaborative stakeholder relationships; developing and maintaining category subject matter expertise, and executing and managing competitive University-wide contracts and supplier relationships. Maintaining open communication and collaboration between FM key stakeholders and Strategic Sourcing will be critical to ensure continued strategic procurement effectiveness and success.


  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of experience and education in an applicable field
  • Creativity and problem-solving abilities
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience (sourcing / procurement / category management / supply chain related)
  • Analytical skills and experience developing and reporting on metrics and quantifiable savings
  • Experience using an ERP/WMS (integrated work management systems)
  • Ability to build relationships and develop internal and external partnerships
  • Proven negotiation skills and contract management experience
  • Customer service experience
  • Knowledge of market conditions/trends in a Facilities-related environment
  • Knowledge of procurement in a university setting preferred
