We are looking to fill 2 positions. A part-time runner (10-15 hours per week) and a full time Legal Assistant (40 hours with benefits)
Job Summary
You must be a current UK student to apply to this position. This position is located off-campus with a local Lexington employer and is not affiliated with UK.
RUNNER:
• Opening/processing mail & saving documents to our file management system
• Processing documents/information from clients/matters,
• Preparing correspondence
• Basic research for files (PVA records, KY SOS records, etc.)
• Summarize information for attorney projects
• Numerous appropriate research projects
• Daily runs to court, other attorney offices, pick up documents
• Make copies & prepare binders for hearings
• Save and update electronic and paper court pleadings
• Create/prepare new folders/files for attorneys
• Update client files
• Daily attention to office environment
• Other office/administrative tasks and runs as needed
LEGAL ASSISTANT:
• Electronically file simple and complex pleadings in State and Federal court.
• Draft electronic filing simple pleadings in State and Federal Court, including, notices of deposition, notices of filing, pro hac vice motions, affidavits in support and basic orders.
• Preparation of domestic and foreign subpoenas and supporting documents, judgments, garnishments, collections and foreclosure documents, probate proofs of claim and liens.
• Preparation of Summonses and Civil Cover Sheets for initiating an action in State and Federal Courts.
• Maintains time entries with all billable time.
• Works closely with attorneys and support staff.
• Maintains a professional attitude and appearance with clients, other attorneys, judges, and anyone associated with a specific case.
