Study Away Advisor

General Function

The Study Away Advisor is an academic advisor who assists in the development of both national and international Study Away opportunities, assists faculty sponsors in program development, and promotes and facilitates Study Away opportunities for students. The Study Away Advisor works closely with students and faculty in determining transfer equivalencies and program validation. The Study Away Advisor advises Missouri State University students who are away and processes enrollment for future semesters. The Study Away Advisor helps faculty in academic program development of international opportunities for students and promotes faculty development through international seminars and conferences.

Description of Primary Duties

The Study Away Advisor is an academic advisor who assists in the development of both national and international Study Away opportunities, assists faculty sponsors in program development, and promotes and facilitates Study Away opportunities for students.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

Education: A Master's degree is required.

Experience: At least two years of work experience in a Study Away office, a semester of work or living abroad, a semester of Study Away experience, or a combination of the above, is required.

Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills are required. Effective interpersonal skills are required. Public speaking skills are required. Attention to detail is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, such as Word and Excel is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. The ability to speak a second language is preferred.
