The Rowan Virtual Reality Center (RVRC):

RVRC is a cutting-edge group of students, faculty and staff working together to tackle the latest engineering challenges using virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR). With years of interesting and exciting projects under their belt, the staff at the VR Center are always looking to integrate new technologies in a cost-effective and commercially available capacity. With past sponsors, such as NASA, NAVSEA, ARL and the FAA, RVRC is always working on new applications for AR and VR and is always looking for multi-talented individuals who want to apply their talents to creating computer graphics (CG), animation, texturing inside of large-scale VR systems or head-mounted displays (HMD) such as the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.  Please visit the RVRC website to learn more about our organization.


Responsibilities of the Virtual Reality Developer:

Under the direct supervision of the Virtual Reality (VR) Center Director, George Lecakes this position will be working on a revolutionary project to help the citizens and government of NJ tackle future storm and flooding events. This position is part of a funded research project to use VR and CG to visualize the sometimes-esoteric results of Civil Engineers. Flooding, evacuation and other storm data will be provided to us and it is our task to create exceptional visualizations within several VR environments such as a unique 10-sided CAVE system, portable systems and the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. The VR Developer will work alongside the director and various students to:

Harness the power of the Unity engine to stunning and informative visualizations to assist in increasing awareness and understand of the impact of storm events.

Use the C# language within the Unity engine to import in Civil Engineering data such as DEM and Shape Files

Strive toward clarity and accessibility of the information

Assisting in preparing reports to sponsors with the Director

Assist in presentations to sponsors and guests with the Director

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Bachelors degree
  • At least two (2) year of professional experience with Unity 3D Engine or similar experience with other commercial engines such as Unreal, CryEngine, etc…
  • A desire to create and learn

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Any skills with CG, whether real-time or off-line, such as digital art, 3D modeling, texturing, animation, programming
  • Capable of working with a team of graduate/undergraduate students and faculty to create virtual reality software products
  • Ability to effectively communicate to a broad audience of people (K-12 students, peers, politicians)
