Visiting Assistant Professor of Religion

 

Goucher College sits on 287 wooded acres, approximately 20 minutes north of Baltimore, MD. Among the 40 Colleges That Change Lives, and ranked first in the nation for study abroad programs, Goucher was recently named one of U.S. News and World Report's "Top 10 Most Innovative Schools."  Goucher College endeavors to be a model teaching and learning community, where faculty and students are engaged with one another in learning both inside and outside of the traditional classroom. 

 

Goucher College seeks a visiting assistant professor of religion to begin in August 2018 for a one-year term. Goucher's Religion Program provides an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural approach to the academic study of religion with a commitment to community-based and experiential learning experiences. The program is located within the Center for Geographies of Justice and therefore operates in close cooperation with programs such as Peace Studies, Judaic Studies, Environmental Studies, and the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program. The programs that comprise the Geographies of Justice Center share the values of equality of individuals and peoples, honest dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation, and active community engagement as the practice of justice.

 

The successful candidate must have an expertise that complements existing offerings, Ph.D. at the time of appointment, be an experienced and creative teacher, an active researcher, and   demonstrate a commitment to the values of the Center for Geographies of Justice.  The position carries a 2/3 course load which will be comprised of introductory and upper level 4 credit Religion courses including Introduction to World Religions and upper level courses in the area of the candidate's expertise.
