Job Summary

Big Sandy Community & Technical College is seeking an Academic Advisor II to advise students on academic requirements and the selection of courses, serve as a resource for faculty/staff and assist students in developing and personalizing an education plan.

Job Duties:

  • Understands graduation requirements for programs. Monitors student registration activities and recommends solutions to academic difficulties. Understands the institution's interpretation of FERPA rules for releasing student information to faculty, parents, and students. Performs and interprets degree audits.
  • Communicates with current and prospective students regarding advisement, academic programs, and other related issues. Maintains accurate electronic records of interactions with students. Serves as a student advocate when appropriate.
  • Stays abreast of changing institutional information, including admissions requirements, new programs, course changes, deadlines, important dates, costs, expanding facilities, updates in college-wide initiatives, transfer requirements, and state and federal mandates.
  • Refers students to the appropriate specialized staff for such issues as financial aid assistance, career advisement, admissions processes, and business office questions until all areas are covered in trainings.
  • Provides academic advice to prospective high school students who call, walk-in, or that you engage when visiting local high schools. Conducts student recruitment workshops both on campus and off campus. Attend college fairs and health fairs for student recruitment purposes
  • Has the ability to teach sections of FYE 105 . Has understanding of reviews and interprets placement and other standardized test scores, unofficial transcripts, and course prerequisites.
  • Other Duties as Assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and 2 years or equivalent related work experience

Bachelor's Degree and 1-2 years related work experience
